Will the bulbs work on the exterior of a house?

As "dumb" bulbs, they might. I couldn't get my set to communicate with the control unit, even though they would flash whenever I tried to detect them using the app. In theory, any power source off the same meter should work. (I'm assuming your outdoor application has at least a passing attempt at protection from the elements.)
