Cheap, fast, win.
Pros: Cheap Fast No quirks Runs cool
Cons: No heatsinks No flashy lights Will not get you laid
Overall Review: Does its job well with an A10-6790K on a MSI A78M-E35 FM2+ / FM2 AMD A78 (Bolton D3). No issues, installing Vista or Win7. BIOS read everything perfectly as 1333. No issues running games.
Massive Dissapointment XFX (and AMD)
Pros: Fast, Stupid fast. Upgraded from a XFX HD 6950 that still works flawlessly after like 3 years, and this card pushes so far beyond its performance its astounding. Clean look and build. Not all the flashy stuff that some makers have. A clean look with a soft XFX logo glow which I cant see in my system design anyway. Came with some cool free games. Runs cool (for me). Very Quiet. Cools itself better than my 6950 did. 2 Eggs for the positives.
Cons: Now the fun part: XFX Customer service and response times. Since I never had to contact XFX with my other card because of its flawless performance, I didn't realize they ONLY do a slow and slack Email style tech support response system. So every 1-2 days I can get a response and then respond back. Getting information out of them is nigh impossible. I have asked time and again if there are any known issues with the card, chipset, mobo, CPU, Drivers, and any other incompatibility, and they respond the same ways everytime: Either asking me stupid questions that I've already answered, or telling me they are going to authorize an RMA. Do they have an updated BIOS like some other manufacturers? Are there any known compatibility issues? Apparently they have no idea, and are more than willing to have me pay for shipping, and wait for them to RMA it. Will they be testing it? Fixing it? updating the BIOS which I could do myself? No one knows or will tell you. and if they do its going to take a month for them to get around to telling you. Whats actually not as bad is the actual problem with the card itself. It is resetting the system at random, mostly, but not always, while rendering in game. I started with my base original system which worked perfectly. Still does. Installed the card on 14.4 CCC. Reads fine, and tested ingame, for 4-5x performance boosts on nearly everything at max settings. While still testing in random games, the system hard resets. Over and over I test, and it does the same. Complete uninstall of drivers? 13.12, 14.4, 14.9, 14.9.1, 14.9.2, 14.11.1 all the same, resetting at random times, sometimes while browsing Steam or Origin, sometimes while playing games, sometimes while net browsing. Fresh Win 7 install did nothing for it. Different board, PSU, CPU, memory, optical and hard drives, nothing plugged into the board but bare functionality hardware. Still the same random resetting. RMAed 1st card. EXACT same thing with new card. When its not resetting the system at random, its working beautifully, but because of the terrible support and random resets, avoid this card, and why not avoid the manufacturer also. Sad.
Overall Review: Original system: AMD Phenom II 1100T 6 Gb Corsair DDR2 6400 RAM MSI 785 mainboard + most recent BIOS Intel dual band WiFi card PC Power & Cooling Silencer MKII 750W PSU 1TB Seagate HDD LG DVDRW SATA All onboard cards disabled New upgrades: Corsair HX1050 PSU Gigabyte UD3 Mainboard 4 Gb Patriot DDR3 1333
Free, easy, free.
Pros: Amusing albeit far reaching game Good graphics Free
Cons: Time consuming code acquisition
Overall Review: Came free with my new A10-6790K 4-Core CPU. Runs decently even with the integrated GPU and shared memory. Although it didn't come with any DLC save the 2 free releases, it saved a theoretical 40$ when I got it, but while the code came quickly, the registration process is a PITA, and must be meticulously followed.
Scortchy fast!
Pros: Fast Easy to work with Cheap Unlocked multipliers Easy to cool (see below) Free game Stupid fast for the price
Cons: Fan Heatsink Heat transfer goo Tiny box :P
Overall Review: This processor keeps up with my Phenom II X6 1100T. Which is a feat in itself. Seems to run cooler also, so long as you are not using the stock fan. The stock fan is great if you need something to kill baby seals with, but otherwise, I would be wary of utilizing it to cool a K6-550, never mind this processor. The fan is mediocre, the heatsink even feels like something you would peel off the top of a yogurt, and the transfer goo is kind of cheap at best. If you run the stock fan expect overheating and poor performance or lockups. With a small upgrade to the Phenom II X6 1100T stock fan, this A10 runs super fast, super cool, and doesnt require some highend gawdy cooler. Runs games using the integrated GPU with shared system memory like a champ. And I mean unexpectedly well on the MSI A78M-E35 FM2+ / FM2 AMD A78 (Bolton D3) its currently on. If you don't or can't go 8 core FX, seriously consider this one. And you can always drop a better dedicated card in with it later.
Great purchase!
Pros: Fully loaded. All interfaces you could want Sleek, compact, elegant design Low price Exquisite performance
Cons: No internal legacy interfaces Single network port onboard Single PCI-E 2 memory slots Requires OS upgrade (Win7 or 8) Basic XP support for integrated GPU No Vista support for integrated GPU (May be bypassed by using a dedicated graphics card)
Overall Review: This is the 5th MSI board I have had the pleasure of working with. As with the others, it is a full featured board with a great layout, seemingly quality components, and lightning performance. As with my AM2+ board, this one has a full cover of interfaces externally, which is great, but if you have an IDE or floppy drive, you will have to utilize a different interface through USB or something since all the boards are dropping those connections. This system is running: AMD A10-6790K 4Ghz 4gb DDR3 1333 (Single stick) 200gb 7200RPM Sata II HDD ATI 8670D (On CPU/GPU) 1.5gb shared G-RAM Video and Audio output via HDMI It runs everything extremely fast, including games. Only the heaviest AAA's seem to need a dedicated GPU or an A10-Crossfire combo. Which is surprising for a shared memory setup. The only downfall I found was I was upgrading a Vista Professional system and didn't want to buy a new OS. Which turned out I didn't have a choice. Keep that in mind if you are trying to update on a tight budget.
Pretty much as expected.
Pros: Low profile, all 3 major interfaces for connection to any standard monitor/TV, sturdy build with all hard caps and the like, transferrable lifetime warranty, no lame fan that is going to go bad with a little dust in it, stays cool even without a fan.
Cons: The other "One" video cards, like this cards 1Gb counterpart seem to have larger heatsinks, not sure why this one gets the smaller HS, box and card itself doesn't state that it is a HD5450, instead they generalize the box and call it the XFX One. ie. One video card to do it all.
Overall Review: The current newest HD5450 driverset from ATI works perfectly with this card right out of the box. Hooked into an RCA HDTV via HDMI with reasonable simplicity, in 720p or 1080p, although Windows XP refused to see the TV correctly, and resolution changes had to be done through the ATI Catalyst software. Most likely it would run better in Vista and above.
