Great PSU with some caveats

EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G5, 80 Plus Gold 650W, Fully Modular, ECO Mode with Fdb Fan, 100% Japanese Capacitors, 10 Year Warranty, Compact 150mm Size, Power Supply 220-G5-0650-X1
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G5, 80 Plus Gold 650W, Fully Modular, ECO Mode with Fdb Fan, 100% Japanese Capacitors, 10 Year Warranty, Compact 150mm Size, Power Supply 220-G5-0650-X1

Pros: - 10 Year Warranty (+3 years over the SuperNOVA G3s at this wattage) - Small Footprint (same as G3s) - 135mm fan vs 130mm fan on G3s - EVGA customer service is generally known to be the industry's best

Cons: - The internals are not made by Super Flower (unlike the G3s) which is generally regarded as the best in industry. FSP makes the G5 generation and don't share such a high reputation. - Poor cable wrapping on the modular cables. The cable wraps are so loose I can easily see through them! Not a problem on my G3/G1. - Accessories are a downgrade vs G3/G1. Both my previous SuperNOVA PSUs came with cloth bags that I could keep the extra PSU cables and other accessories in. Just a thin, clear bag for G5.

Overall Review: Overall, I can't really complain about anything of real substance on this product; it works and hasn't caused me trouble. The fact that EVGA changed manufactures of the internals concerns me, however I think there aren't any red flags so far so only time will tell. There's a review on eTeknix (850w) that thinks this is the best thing since sliced bread, and then there is also a review of the 750w on Tomshardware that is less positive; I recommend reading those reviews to make an informed buying decision.

Rebate is legit

Antec EarthWatts Series EA-750 Green 750 W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Certified CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Continuous Power Supply

Pros: Cheap! Purchased at $50 with rebate Lots of connections Rebate did arrive eventually Manufacturer RMA process worked painlessly (ignoring the shipping costs)

Cons: First worked (unreliably) for 2 months until full failure Replacement PS fan rattles Rebate took 3 months to arrive

Overall Review: Overall, it has been a pain. Wish I'd have gone with something else.

Good Case for The Right Builder

SAMA Sama-S88-BK Black ATX Mid Tower USB3.0 Computer Case w/3 x 120mm Fans (Pre-Installed)
SAMA Sama-S88-BK Black ATX Mid Tower USB3.0 Computer Case w/3 x 120mm Fans (Pre-Installed)

Pros: * The excellent price helps me forgive many of its flaws. * This case feels modern. It does not feel like a re-tooling of some early 2000's case like a lot of cheap cases are. * The handle is solid and very convenient. * For what is almost a small form-factor case, cable management is thoughtfully implemented. * SSD mounts next to the motherboard are an attractive & clever location. * It came will all the screws (including standoffs) that I needed and more. * Metal is surprisingly solid and not wobbly!

Cons: * The front panel offers minimal airflow. I do not recommend running any non-midrange parts in this case. It's good enough but barely. * PSU length limit is quite short! Make sure your PSU isn't bigger than the limit (150mm) or it will block HDD mounts! * HDD mounts are quite short! Both locations require an uncomfortable amount of cable bending without reverse-right-angle sata cables (which are very rare cables). I ultimately chose not to use the mounts. * The case feet are stubby, so case is not great for PSU cooling * The PCI slot covers are the punch-out variety, so once you remove them you can't put them back.

Overall Review: Note: Case did not come with a side window. Looks like they got rid of that. This is a really good case for a budget PC. It has just enough cooling/space for the essential components and looks quite clean when you're done. However for more complex builds, I think the case will frustrate you. Be cautious of any components that would go under the PSU shroud, because it's TINY in there. Carefully check that your PSU will fit, and arguably I think the two HDD mounts in there are not useful period as there's not enough space for the cables.
