Question 1

Is anyone having any troubles with the wifi card? I have Verizon Fios for home service and have a 75/75 Mbps package from them but when I go and do speed tests it comes out to 4/40 Mbps. I have been on the phone with Verizon technicians and we did a bunch of test and diagnostics and everything was fine I was wondering if anyone else is facing this problem cause I can't download anything game from steam and blizzard because it downloads at 20-40 Kbps and it estimates download time to about 4 days or something crazy like that.

Hey man. I am sorry for your problem. Sounds rough. I have not experienced it though. I just ordered this laptop on 7/2 and got it 7/7 so its been a few days, nothing is going wrong with it yet. I have downloaded loads of games already since I was switching from another PC. My steam games took 30 mins at tops each. Games like MapleStory and Skyrim took about an hour and a half. I hope someone else is able to help you brother. Good luck! Also, it might just be a faulty wifi card. Could get it swapped out by manufacturer.

I bought this and really enjoy it but I wanna know if it comes with a cd dvd rom? I dont see one on the device manager and the drive wont open.

No, it does not have a cd/dvd rom installed. There is a place to put one but I have not bothered looking into putting one in, as I have a USB 3.0 external blue-ray that I use. Also, IMO...Newegg needs to start making sure they include ALL the info in an easy to find place.

It says that this laptop is equipped with a "GT 940M 2GB." However, when I go to its specifications, it says that it is a Nvidia Geforce 940M?I am confused as to which one it is, so, please respond as fast as you can(I'm looking to buy this laptop).

The video card is the Nvidia GeForce 940M. Nvidia uses the designation "GT" with some of their cards. That is not the case with the 940M.

What has been your experience with this laptop?

I replaced a dell latitude with a 4th gen core i5, 8GB Ram, and 240GB SSD drive that had failed.

Performance is very similar to the dell.

I can tell the hard drive performance is slightly slower but the space makes up for it.

Despite the dell being a 14" model and the acer being a 15.6" the acer is actually lighter, mainly because of a smaller battery. Despite this batter life is about the same.

There is a bezel covering up where an optical drive would normally go so I am very surprised it didn't come with one.

I don't like windows 8 unless have a touchscreen so I installed "Start8" from stardock.

Yes, But it seems to have problem with its Video Cam I am not sure but definitely I will have to look in to this or ending up returning the computer.

Is everyone's trackpad make a load clicking noise or is it just mine?

I do not own any camera, so I cannot supply one, but it is just like the display here or any other laptop, just with in the surface with the keyboard and everything to the edges white.

Does this really come with a hybrid HDD? If so, what is the storage size for the SSD?

Blake, that's not how hybrid drives work... the os isn't installed on the ssd. Essentially you have a 1TB hard drive and the most frequently read files are cached on the 8G ssd and read from there. You don't see the ssd as a separate drive

Can a CD/DVD drive be added to this unit?

You can attach and external  CD/DVD drive to the unit via USB. I bought a slim external USB drive and it works great. I only need to attach it when I want to use it. If you want to add one permanently, this is not an option.

Is this computer good for graphic design by chance? Or basic school stuff in general?

Add a Student version of Microsoft Office and this laptop will get you through college for research, presentations and papers. Graphic design, however, is a large field of endeavor, with many different types of work. While this computer certainly has the computing power to handle many different types of graphic design tasks, whether or not it would be good for a particular task depends on the specific task. I wouldn't chose this computer for video editing for example. You could use it for light photo/graphic editing as it, but the limited resolution of the display would be a hindrance for detail intensive work. There is an HDMI out, so you can run a larger, higher resolution external monitor up to 1,920 × 1,080 resolution.

IMO, if you're looking for a dedicated graphic design workstation you can get more bang for your buck with a desktop. You can probably do what you need with this Acer, but you'd have to add an external monitor and input device (mouse, digitizer, etc.). Once you do that your cost is higher than a good desktop system.

On the other hand, you'd have a laptop that you can disconnect from your external monitor, so you'd gain mobility. You might start with this laptop, then add the external monitor down the road when you decide you need it.
