Is this a new or refurbished unit?

Hi. My unit was new in factory wrap and box. I picked this AVR because it has the Harman Karmon reputation and basic features I needed. And can't beat the price!

How come i cant play music from my phone? i tried hooking it up through the headphones port.

They are both output ports... Be like trying to connect it to a laptop headphone jack.
