Will it accept NTSC analog TV from a cable company set top box ?

I have mine hooked up direct to analog cable TV and it works great. I use a splitter so I also have a cable to go to the TV. I don't have a cable box, but I think you shouldn't have a problem unless the signal is scrambled. If you can hook the cable direct to the TV and it works, it shouldn't be a problem. Still, you might be able to split the output of the box, I don't know about that.

I want to connect a DVD/VCR combo unit to my computer so I can trasfer old VHS videos to a digital format. Will this unit work for this application? It looks like it will but I do not want to purchase without confirmation from someone who really knows.

Yes. It will. I managed to convert one VHS tape before my computer failed. The failure was simply due to old hardware and had nothing to do with the Hauppauge box. The minimum system requirements on the manufacturer's website are a bit low. My system exceeded the minimum by about 15%, but the performance is lacking. I would recommend a newer or higher end system to adequately handle the conversion to digital.

The cable coax-in is broken off the back of my plasma TV tuner. I'm currently running the cable coax through an old VCR and using RCA jacks to get the signal back to the TV. Will this TV box do the same thing my current VCR is doing?

Jerry, This device will not do the job. It is designed to allow viewing and/or recording on a PC of TV and FM broadcasts or signals input through its S-Video or composite video jacks. Best regards, Al

Is this still shipping with the WinTV-HVR 1950, or has it been updated to the 1955? I need the 1950 to use on Linux (no drivers available yet for the 1955). Thanks!

The units we received were really HVR-1955's even though the marking on the box indicated HVR-1950. We had to special order from Hauppauge as they had limited QTY's of true HVR-1950 capture devices. Most devices found on the market marked as HVR-1950 are really HVR-1955's. Best Regards cd
