can I hook this directly to the tv and record shows and play them back?

The HD-PVR encodes  the component video and analog or digital audio signal from an external cable or satellite set top box and then sends it to a PC to be saved on a hard drive.  There are video and audio outputs on the HD-PVR that you can route to the TV so you can use the set top box for watching TV when the HD-PVR is not being used.  Watching the recordings that you make on a TV requires a separate program which varies depending on the operating system of the PC.  It also requires audio and video connections between the PC and the TV in question.

I am interested in getting one of these to record my xbox 360 gameplay, and post it on youtube. Is it worth the money or should I look for another PVR? Also is it really hard to hook up to the computer or is it as simple as plugging in a few wires?

I bought this for my 15 year old sons birthday. he loved it and used it all the time, He was able to figure out how to set it up on his own and I really doubt he read the instructions.

On the other side. hes had it less than a year and it no longer works.

Question 3

What is the difference between the PVR & the PVR2.
I need to save some programs from my Time Warner Cable DVR ideally in HDMI.
Is this possible with either or both of these devices?

PVR2 does have HDMI but is designed for gaming devices XBOX, etc.

PVR does not have HDMI but has Component Video and can handle 1080i but not 1080p.  Personally, the difference is too slight for me to notice.  The audio is analog.

My PVR is connected via Component Video to a DIRECTV HD DVR.  DIRECTV HD DVR simultaneously outputs HDMI, Component Video, Composite Video and S-Video among other signals. The HDMI output goes to my TV.  So in order to capture video I connect the PVR to the Component Video.

In turn, the PVR is connected to a computer via USB2 which captures the video via the software package provided with the PVR (Total Media Extreme). Incidentally, I was able to daisy chain four 16-foot USB2 cables together with no loss in signal quality.  However, need to get cables that have repeater amplifiers in them.

I'll be using this to capture my console gaming and put it on YouTube. It loos good and all, but how can I record my voice with it?

Product has not worked at all for me.  Purchased a firewire adapter cable and have had zero luck.  Very disappointed in this product.  Sitting here on my desk like a paperweigh

Will this work for capturing older game consoles like SNES and Playstation 1?

Yes, this should be able to record audio and video from older gaming consoles, as long as you have the proper connections (the yellow, red and white RCA connectors.)

Does this box strip HDCP for 1080p HDMI inputs?

No. If a video is copy protected the HDMI input will not allow you to record it. You can however use the Component input to record the video.

Will this hook up to my son's PS3? He is wanting to record his games and put them on YouTube. Will he need anything else special or just this box and how does he load it to YouTube with this thing?
