Is the software included or do you have to purchase it to download it?

No software is included in the box. However there are Firmware updates that can be downloaded to update the device, and there is also Hauppauge Capture that can be downloaded. Hauppauge Capture is free for Rocket, HD PVR 2, Colossus and the original HD PVR users. The rocket is ready to record right out of the box, you just need to supply the usb drive.

Question 2

does this pvr rocket when in pc free mode, ignore all copy protection signals from anything on a tv set top box while using the analog cables like it does in the HD PVR 1 ?  and does this ever freeze up any # of times at all in pc free mode when starting/stopping the record button when recording briefly or for the 4 hours or so on the flash drive?

In PC free mode, it records everything from a cable box when the source is component/S video. I actually used it last night to record something on TV via component and fell asleep. When I woke up, it had recorded for over four hours and filled the entire 32 GB flash drive on maximum quality settings (18.0 MB/s).

The one thing to make sure of is that your USB source is strong enough. I used to plug it into my cable box USB as a power source, and it would freeze because it was only a 0.5 amp. I used my cell phone wall charger and it worked fine.

It splits the video every 1.95 GB but they can be easily joined together with ffmpeg or another decent mp4 merger.

Does it also use component input?

There is no composite input on this.  It has HDMI input (must be 720p or 1080p) and Component video input (YPbPr) ant must be 480i, 720p/i, 1080p/i.

Hey i was wondering is this product compatible with mac osx snow leopard or at least imovie or does it have to be awindows computer with the huappage software?
