what does bare drive mean ?

its an unformatted drive in an anti-static bag in a white box. its NOT a retail drive (doesnt have instruction booklet, directions, pretty box). if putting it in a new computer, the windows installation disc will format the drive for you. if you are just adding it as a second drive, windows will ask if you want to format, so just click yes. keep in mind this is a laptop drive, so if you are putting it in a desktop computer, it will not be as fast as a bigger 3.5 inch drive. mine works great.

WILL THIS REPLACE A SAMSUNG LAPTOP SERIES 510R HD?

Most laptops use standard 2.5" hard drive.  This should work in that model Samsung.  You can check the specs on your laptop online or just simply remove the hard drive cover and I am pretty sure you will find a 2.5" hard drive installed.  If the Samsung is the NP510RE, the specs shows it comes with a 2.5" SATA II hard drive.  I installed this in a friends laptop in 2014 and have had no problems.  For my own personal laptop, I would use a WD Black or Solid State Drive
