My present MoBo (MSI A58M-E33) has 4 STA slots that I want to populate with 4x3T drives and have the MoBo operate them as RAID10.  
I tried adding in a cheaper SATA PCIe card for the CD + boot SSD drives but the BIOS cannot tell that this add-in card is there so I have no boot drive.

Will I be able to boot from this card???

Sorry, never used the HPRR620

But I am using HPRR2710 & HPRR2740 with no problems

Both are bootable but you may have to disable some items in your system BIOS to make room for the HPRR2740 BIOS

Your MoBo supports RAID 10 @SATA II speeds

Make sure required drivers are installed and HPRR620 bios or GUI is set as boot device

does this work with linux?

Well, sort of. I'm using it on a small Linux file server I built last year, but it was very difficult to find drivers for it (I think I had to get them from their ftp?site that was all in Chinese or Korean) which turned out to be a bust because they didn't have drivers for anything past I think debian 5.0, so then I had to build them from source. Even the source was hard to find.

So while I can say I eventually got it working under Linux, it doesn't work easily with Linux and definitely not straight out of the box. Then if you can even still find the driver source, you better be pretty fluent in Linux command line, troubleshooting, and be familiar with building drivers from source for dkms. If any of that sounds foreign to you, then my answer to you would be "NO."

If you can get it up and running, it has been a perfectly reliable card for over a year now. Not a single issue since the driver problems in the beginning.

Question 3

How can this card support Raid 5 if it only has two SATA connections on it? Raid 5 has a minimum of 3 disk.
