Do the caps lock and num lock keys light up when you press to use it?

No.  Few wireless keyboards do.  It is a matter of battery life.  Those lights do consume power. I have had the Elite v2 for a couple years now at work and the batteries seem to last for at least 6 months.  It does have a utility/driver you can load which will show on the screen when you change the state of one of those keys i.e. Caps Lock on or off and then fads off the screen. This one shows in the lower right corner of the screen.
