On the Vive website they have a  requirement of an open PCI slot. Is that correct and if so, what for?

Yes, the adapter is a PCI-E card that has a cable connected to it that leads to the transmitter. You need an open (not currently in-use) PCI-E slot to put it in.

If you don't have a spare PCI-E slot you should look into the TPCast instead.

Does it work with the Oculus RIft, it seems like this could possibly work with it, since it has the ports a Rift would require? All I see stopping it is software.

No, it won't work with the Rift. While the receiver does have USB and HDMI connections, the software and drivers won't support it. Aside from the actual WiGig card, everything else is very proprietary.  It is unlikely for Oculus or HTC to develop the necessary drivers.  Maybe a 3rd party will develop something, but it's not going to be anytime soon.

whats a recommended 3rd party battery to use for a longer playtime?

i havnt found any battery to outright replace the one that comes with it, however i have experimented a bit and found you can daisy chain some together, i was able to play for 3 hours straight adding on my two 3000 mAh pocket batteries. heat from the batteries can be an issue so be careful if you try this.

Does the battery support quick charge (QC3.0)? What's the charge time of the battery?
