I have had it for a week now and still have not been able to activate it, Can't get a phone number and they don't offer number porting. Tech support was ZERO help. Has anyone else had this problem?

technically no, i have not even TRIED to activate it on freedompop...  it took a fair-amount of work, but i was able to flush-out their (fp) software and am running cyanogenmod (7.2) on it now...  i plan to activate it thru ting (activated using zk4jej175l3 at ting site) once my google-voice-ported-number comes thru ($3 to port-away from g-voice and a week lag due to land-line-type porting)...

otoh, in case it helps - there was an 866-number programmed into the phone which might be different than the generic-screen phone-number that pops up when you try to log in...

personally, i assumed that fp was just "dumping inventory" since this is such an old phone...  they (fp) got quite a bad-rap for their lock-in services once you were signed up with them...  i have not known anyone who USES fp, so im not sure if any of this has been helpful...

Sprint. I asked the same question. I live along I94 so I get Sprint's 4G Wi-Max service, good for search and navigation.
As a FreedomPop phone?...forget about it. You'll have to use Skype or Viber to call a wrecker. There should have been a law against selling these things as phones given the lack of updates to get them to work when FreedomPop first started selling them. I haven't even checked for recent updates. These devices will be obsolete by the time FreedomPop engineers get their GED's.

For the free plan, you still must have a credit(prepaid or regular) card.  They charge your account 0.01 (1 penny) to ensure it's a legitimate account.  They do charge 2.49 per month if you sign up for voicemail(I didn't).  So far the service has been pretty decent(especially for free).  I have used 15 mb talked 10 minutes and texted about 30 times in the last 14 days.  I don't typically install a bunch of apps nor do I stream so I'm probably not your average user.  My phone bill will be free since I can stay way below the limit.  They do have a nice monitor to use. I will say that the battery life isn't so hot on this model(I get about 1-1 1/2 days at best on a charge).  I'm still in the testing phase with Freedom Pop so I'm not 100% sold yet.  Give me a couple of months and then I'll be switching if the service is consistently reliable.

No, there's no charge to activate the phone. They will try to sell you extra services but you're under no obligation to buy them. You have to open an account at  in order to activate it. In case you're wondering I haven't found a downside to this phone yet. It's absolutely free and it works great.

Question 6

Just bought two and the back isn't clicking in all the way. Is it suppose to be that way or is it a defect? Both are like that, don't want to force it because it might break.

Mine was the same way, I don't think these phones were refurbed very well. Before I wiped mine trying to get it to work it had somebody else's call history on it!

I bought two of these one for me , the other for my for my boyfriend. But for some reason my 3G works but my boyfriend's does not. It won't let him call or text unless he has wirless which makes it pointless because then he can't call. Anyone know how to fix? If not we are going to need a refund or an replacement!

First one came DOA, it took over two weeks for the replacement to arrive.  Once that was received, it works reasonably well as a phone in most of the places that I would use it (NYC Metro Area).  The camera takes good pictures in bright settings, but is blurry and dark in any low light or indoor shots, even with the lights on.  The battery life is very short, needs to be charged daily even when not used at all. The FP website is not very user friendly, mainly just showcasing other items that they offer, finding help was rather circuitous.

Can these phones be added to a regular Sprint plan? The Freedonpop network is useless for voice calls.

Sorry,  I have no idea if that is possible because I bought the FreedomPop phone to get away from the carrier contracts.  On the other hand, the phone is a refurbished unit from Sprint complete with Sprint logo on the case, so unless they deliberately blocked this while reflashing the ROM, the hardware should be perfectly capable.
Your best bet is to ask the Sprint representative who is getting $ if you add this to your contract.

Question 10

Purchased a unit and put in service.  I have to RMA the unit due to
an electrical defect in the unit.  Will I be able to retain the number I had selected with the previous unit or will I have to select a new number once my replace unit comes in and then need to activate?

You might be able to, but I spent 40 minutes, three different times, on hold waiting for someone to answer their 800 number. (I gave up and emailed Newegg instead when I had to RMA mine for volume rocker issues) So if you can deal with waiting however long it will take...then sure...
