Yes, the HTC Vive headset is packaged with a code you redeem from their website. You'll need to create an account At Vive's website and download their software then run it and redeem the games using the code that came packaged with the headset. You will then receive further instructions through email.

Those games change from time to time, so the 2 or 3 games I got free right after Christmas are probably not the same as what you get now, but yes, I got the ones from Vive that were current at that time. Looking at the first answer, I did not get the Plank or Everest but both of those I understand to ne really good. I was impressed that they gave good quality games.

You can play it in theater mode,  it is where you are at a theater and the games are on the screen and you be using a keyboard and mouse.

I notice in this picture the straps are blue, does that mean this is a newer version? If so what is new?

This being the final retail version some changes were made, the biggest differences I noticed was small cosmetic stuff, mainly with different color LEDS (the developer kit LED on the controller went white when they were connected I believe, the retail version they turn green) some changes made for comfort, etc. Functionally it's still the same. It's my understanding that they incorporated some of the feedback on the developers kit (comfortability, ease of use) into this version, to prepare for release to the general public.

Is the vive in 3d similar to 3d vision? Or is it more like a standard 2d monitor?

Im assuming by 3D vision you mean like a 3D tv or glasses, and no it’s not like that. It is a standard 2d monitor, but it is so close to your eyes you rarely notice. It is nothing like looking at a computer monitor, it is truly like you are in a whole different world. Hard to explain really, just something that you would have to experience to understand truly.
