Cheapest Elpida around!3/2/2009 6:58:13 PM
Pros: Elpida chips! 2000MHz 8-8-8-20-1T @ 1.64v no sweat. 1600MHz 7-7-7-18-1T @ 1.6v not an issue either. Did I mention these are Elpida Hyper chips? For under $300, this is the deal of the year.
Cons: Hard to find these in stock. I got lucky late one night and the Egg had them.
Overall Review: By far the best deal on i7 ready RAM you're going to find. Works 100% with DFI Te3H8 and i7 920. To run these at 2000MHz you're going to need to up your QPI (VTT) volts to about 1.5v. For 1600MHz with tighter timings, lower QPI (VTT) volts is fine.
Pros: Outlandish speed and reliability. Fastest DDR3 RAM on the planet...for now. Runs cool, too. No fan required. Blows my Dominators in the weeds, and they're no slouches...
Cons: EXTREMELY Limited Availability. Check your height clearance...
Overall Review: Wish it were cheaper, but you DO sometimes get what you pay for!!! Price is really not too high, all things considered. They run a whole bunch of chips, but only a precious few will pass these specs (CL8/2000). The VAST majority (>98%) end up in either their CL9 2000's or their CL8 1800's. Kingston's website shows this kit with a 6/19/09 projected avail date...and a whopping $469.00 price. Newegg must be one of their fave sources for plumbing.
Pros: Heatsinks look nice. Kingston phone tech support didn't have any wait lines. Packaged decently as the RAM chips weren't floating around in the box.
Cons: DOA. Can't finish POST and hangs on FF code. Stuck my friend's Mushkin sticks into the computer immediately right after and my computer boots perfectly.
Overall Review: I bought this RAM about a month ago, when it had like several reviews, and a couple of five-egg ratings and no negatives. I decided to take the plunge, sold my Corsair Dominator sticks (8-8-8-24 @ 1600mhz) and bought these RAM sticks. Unfortunately, at the same time that this was happening, I sent in my EVGA X58 mobo to be stepped up to the Classified edition. After several delays with UPS, and 3 weeks later, I get my mobo back and install everything. The computer fails to boot. At first, I suspected it was my mobo, due to the high amount of DOA's on the classified (also stuck on the FF code). However, I check the RAM's product page on Newegg and it turns out that there are many, many DOA reviews in a row now (15+). So I stuck my roomate's RAM sticks into my computer, just for the heck of it, and my computer boots perfectly, no issues whatsoever. I'm returning these to Newegg for a refund and getting the Corsair Dominator GT (8-8-8-24 @ 2000mhz) instead.
Pros: Is there anything good you can say about dead ram?
Cons: If your system begins to experience boot issues and cycles through trying to start Windows with a bsod, you've got the wonderful dead stick that we all know about. Try popping sticks out until you find the dead one. Confirm you got the right one with memtest 2.11 on a CD. RMA those things for refund and make newegg pay the shipping. These things are garbage and usually die after about a week of use. Can't believe kingston and newegg are continuing to send out DOA kits as RMA's. Somebody needs to take a classified out of the box at newegg and sit down for the day filtering out dead sticks. In the mean time, yank this product until kingston can get their act together and fix the problem.
Overall Review: The longer this goes on, the more its going to cost newegg in shipping fees and the more it's going to cost Kingston because they are going to get shafted with all these junk kits they didn't realize they were making. Love the free 4gb flash drive they are offering now, I guess they hope that will convince people to buy the set anyways haha.
Cons: Either the sets show up open package, or they die after use. Obviously kingston got some bad elpida ic's or something because nobody else is being affected by this wave of dead sticks and they all use the same elpida hyper ic's.
Overall Review: Do not by any means buy this ram, you will get an open package set that is DOA. Have newegg RMA for refund this stuff because otherwise you will get stuck in the cycle of receiving open packages of this stuff over and over and over. Newegg needs to take a garbage bag and can this stuff.
Pros: They run fine for about a week...
Usually pull 7-8-7-20-1t on my classified and r2e with around 1.67-1.70v.
Cons: Most unusual set of ram. Sticks work and then die. Been through many sets and newegg just keeps sending out open package ones from other RMA's, I'm sure I've had my same sticks more than once. The sets that work when they show up end up dying, and if they show up open package taped, that usually is a clear sign that they are dead.
Overall Review: Stay away! RMA for refund and get a set of gskill or mushkin.
Overall Review: I have now 5 sets sitting at home and all are bad, last one send as a replacement wouldn't run at stock speed and voltages it would lock up my mem test each single time after about 8 minutes into test.I put back c0rsair and trust me no problems there.waisted ENORMOUS amount of time and frustration level is HIGH all I want now is my money back and do not want to hear kingston name again...ever, and I mean that!
Pros: Elpida chips! 2000MHz 8-8-8-20-1T @ 1.64v no sweat. 1600MHz 7-7-7-18-1T @ 1.6v not an issue either. Did I mention these are Elpida Hyper chips? For under $300, this is the deal of the year.
