First use of an SSD drive, much faster than the PATA/SATA drives 8/23/2018 2:46:51 PM

Pros: Purchased two of these my father/son builds. The drive are nicely boxed and include a 3.5" tray for mounting. They also come with Acronis True Image registration #'s so you can download the software.

Cons: Not a big deal, but I would rather have the software disk than a registration #. A couple of extra steps if you're using them for replacement drives.

Overall Review: I knocked an egg off because the shipping on this drive was slow and I had to follow up with the 3rd party (who did make it right I will say) but you have to wonder about the ethics of billing people's credit cards BEFORE you ship the merchandise. In my case, a shipping label was created, and a week later it hadn't supposedly been picked up by USPS. Hmmm. That's one hassle a person doesn't need when building a system.

Accidents happen, shipments get lost, and I understand that, and in this case, the company made good, so it's no issue other than I ended up ordered some SSDs from the Big A to finish the build with my son.

Superior Performance & Reliability 11/18/2017 2:40:51 PM

Pros: I bought this SSD because its specs are better than some other off-the-shelf SSDs -- details like the IO Controller Chipset that's built into it is more reliable than most, and other things that only a geek like me would appreciate. So far, it has no disappointed. It's been working great on both Windows 10 and Fedora 25 and up (Linux).

Cons: A little more costly than regular SSDs (but I think it's worth it)

Overall Review: I'm hoping the other reviewer just had a fluke experience. It's been working flawlessly for almost two years now.

Speed for a decent price! 3/22/2017 6:04:09 AM

Pros: - Fast.
- Cheap.
- Looks cool.

Cons: - Version of Acronis you get is super basic. It's free and does the trick IF you are just cloning from one drive to another for swap out. It DOES NOT give you any of the Acronis backup features, it is DRIVE CLONE ONLY. Being an Acronis subscriber and using the other features of their suite, it would almost be better if it didn't come with it at all.

Overall Review: Bought this one to run in RAID0 with another one I already have. Insane speed on SATA III. Love being the first in game. Well worth the price.

Too tame to be called Savage. SHSS37A, the 480GB version 3/17/2017 11:14:06 AM

Pros: The included (downloadable) cloning software did a -flawless- job with both EFI and GPT partitions. Furthermore, the resize function accurately resized the main OS partition, and left the others as-is (which is what I wanted.) Device is aesthetically pleasing. Thanks to Kingston's highly optimized Phison controller, the technical specs look both promising and amazing.

Cons: After installing, I Found the PC to be a bit sluggish. Ran some in-OS tests that suggested write throughput was low. Ran comparison tests directly on the drive with Spinrite (by GRC) and was disappointed at the results. Burst transfer rate and sustained transfer rate was slower than the OEM HDD. -- Please note, I've been using Spinrite for a long time (over a decade), so my interpretation of results is not evaluated by 'blindly' trusting results.

Overall Review: Tests were done on a new, stock Thinkpad E560 20EV002J.
Tests were done when HDDs & machine were cold, and again when warm. Variation was marginal, at best.
Here is the summary using highest results:

--- Kingston HyperX Savage 480GB (#SHSS37A/480G)

Sector access velocity: 284.88 million -This is very good

Sustained transfer rate: 186.1 million -This is good

--- OEM: Seagate 'thin' drive, #ST500LM021
Random sector access: 16.916 ms -This is poor, but not unusual for this model of disk
Sector access velocity: 9.66 million -This is poor, but not unusual for this model of disk
Burst transfer rate: 27.9 million -This is acceptable
Sustained transfer rate: 106.5 million -This is acceptable
