If NOT going the water cooling route, what CPU fan/heatsinks have you guys used with this case?

Made the mistake of ordering the evo212 and it was a good... 6 inches too wide to use with this case...

what would you guys recommend for a non-water cooling cpu fan solution for this case, anyone find a great fit that doesn't sacrifice cooling power for a slim profile?

Any suggestions welcome (for the record my MB does not have enough on board fan slots for the typical WC solution that uses a 3 or 4pin cable for the fan and another to regulate the cooler)

The Noctua NH-D9L and U9S both fit. Due to the airflow design of the case, I recommend a tower cooler over a low-profile cooler; the tower channels the intake air from the front of the case toward the back exhaust fan. I bought the D9L and it does an excellent job on my 6600K. Even if you aren't a "fan" of the Noctua brown, the tinted glass panels largely hide it.

Question 2

I want to paint the steel frame. Is that possible with this case?

If you were to paint it youd have to sandblast it or remove the brushed texture finish for it to look half way worth the effort of doing it. The texture on mine isnt that deep so you would not compromise the structural integrity too much with the leveling of the surface. If you paint it I hope you have a good set up and know what paint to use. I highly suggest a spray gun and not risking the outcome with spray paint in a can. Good luck.

Will this case fit an asus strix gtx 970 including the power connector?

I've tried measuring it out, and, I do believe it will physically fit the STRIX 980/970 (definitely not 7XX line, those are slightly wider). But the problem is, though the PCIe power connectors are recessed into the card, they're still outward more than a regular connector I believe. If the card would fit, it would likely be within a few millimeters of the glass. I'd look for a different card, or if you must have that card a different case. EVGA released a GTX 980 that is a reference cooler design, but has their own look to it instead of stock. Those are the best types of cards for this case anyways, perhaps give that a look.

Question 4

Can someone with this case measure the distance between the inner back plate (where the 90mm fan mount is) and the outer back plate (the removable aluminum part)?

What are u trying to put there, I was only able to fit a fan on the inside and have room for the cables, I installed a radiator core on the out side, the only thing to remember is your USB and Ethernet and video cable have to be plugged in

You guys think I can fit a NZXT Kraken g10 with a r9 280x or similar GPU in this bad boy?

It might actually fit but it would be really really close.  I actually have an MSI Radeon R9 280X with the Stock Twin Frozr cooler in the 901 now.  The card sits only about half an inch off the bottom of the case, I don't have any wires running under the card because of this, too close to the fans.  I'm not sure how big the Kracken is but if it sticks out more than a half inch over a stock 2-Slot video card it may not happen.  Also, forget about it if your video card has PCIE power connectors on the side, mine were luckily in the back of the card.  When the glass is closed there is barely an inch between the glass and the side of the video card.  Power connectors on the side may be possible if you have a power supply that comes with flat cables like a Corsair RM series.

Question 6

I am an owner of this case and have a question about the 92mm case fan AND using a CPU water cooler. It appears to me that per the instructions, if one is installing a CPU water cooling solution the 92mm case fan has to go, so it's a one or the other decision. The installation instructions say "92mm fan must be removed" but i'm unsure if they are saying it has to be temporarily removed to install the CPU water cooler or permanently..... anyone able to shed some light on this for me?

so fan wise, i **think** for me a cpu cooler + 120mm fan is the way to go, just making sure i cannot do the cpu cooler + 120mm fan + 92mm fan

I currently have a 92mm fan inside the case with a 120mm fan for the back as well. However I was not able to fit in the radiator and that had to be placed outside where the 120mm fan and radiator is sandwiching the removable back plate where the I/O is. The back area is too cramped unless you fit a slim 120mm fan.

Does this come with the optical drive? Where is it mounted?

Is the rear fan a 90mm or a 92mm? a whole bunch of reviews and spec sheets say that it is 90mm but alot of people are putting 92mm. is a 92mm able to fit? 92mm is alot more common to find than 90mm.

I was able to fit a 92 mm.  I was told by a computer technician that a 90mm and 92 are pretty much the same thing.

Spec's show 90mm fan... I assume this is actually a 92mm fan option, is that correct?

Yes, the case supports a 92mm on the rear interior panel. It should be noted that many 901 users (myself included) have decided to mount a much larger 140mm case fan to the rear grill, instead. It can be annoying to access the I/O panel on the motherboard, but the cooling/noise benefits outweigh the headache, in my opinion. Some users have found 140mm fans that, with a very slight dremel modification to the frame, allow them to fit inside the 120mm front tray.
