RTX Spark vs RTX 50 Gaming Laptops: Which Should You Buy?

RTX Spark laptops went on sale a week ago, and the question I keep seeing is whether one makes sense for gaming. It runs on NVIDIA's Arm-based N1X chip, with up to 20 CPU cores and a Blackwell GPU with up to 6,144 CUDA cores, and NVIDIA says hundreds of games run at launch. Here's how I'd weigh it against the RTX 50 laptops already on shelves.

I'll say up front that today is a bad day for one particular example. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on PC today, and it won't run on RTX Spark. NVIDIA lists Call of Duty support for 2027, and Activision's own spec page says only Intel and AMD processors with AVX are supported.

The Contenders

RTX Spark (Arm): thin, built for battery life, with up to 128GB of unified memory. Games run on Windows on Arm, and anti-cheat support covers a growing but specific list. At launch NVIDIA names titles like Fortnite, Counter-Strike 2, Marvel Rivals, ARC Raiders and Rocket League, and says it is still working with anti-cheat providers, including Vanguard, RICOCHET and EA Javelin (due early 2027), to bring more protected games to the platform.

RTX 50 laptops (Intel or AMD): x86 processors and a discrete GeForce GPU with its own video memory. Everything runs, including every anti-cheat. They're heavier and use more power.

Deep Dive

ASUS ProArt P14 RTX Spark

The ASUS ProArt P14 RTX Spark listing on Newegg pairs the N1X with 128GB of LPDDR5X, a 4TB SSD and a 14-inch 3K 120Hz OLED touchscreen rated at 700 nits, with a 90Wh battery and a 140W USB-C charger. In Windows Central's testing of a Surface Laptop Ultra with the top RTX Spark configuration, the GPU landed around an RTX 4070 in 3DMark and handled 1440p at high settings in most titles, leaning on DLSS and frame generation in more demanding ones. Red Dead Redemption 2 needed a switch to DirectX 12 to launch. Its strongest area in that review was local AI, not gaming. I'd buy it as a creator or AI laptop that can also game.

Budget RTX 50: Acer Nitro V16 and ASUS TUF Gaming 16

For people who mostly want games to just work, the Acer Nitro V16 is the entry point I'd look at. It has an Intel Core 7 240H, an RTX 5060 with 8GB of GDDR7, 32GB of DDR5 and a 16-inch 1200p 180Hz screen. The ASUS TUF Gaming 16 uses a Ryzen 7 260 with the same GPU and 16GB, but it has two SO-DIMM slots with one free, so adding memory later is easy.

The Sweet Spot: RTX 5070 Ti

The MSI Vector 16 HX AI pairs a Core Ultra 7 255HX with an RTX 5070 Ti and 12GB of GDDR7, plus two Thunderbolt 5 ports. Its 1200p 144Hz screen is modest. The Acer Predator Helios Neo 18 AI uses the same GPU with a Core Ultra 9 275HX and a much nicer 18-inch 2560 x 1600 240Hz display, but it weighs 7.28 lb. That is a desk laptop.

RTX 5080: Power or Portability

The Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 AI has Intel's newer Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, an RTX 5080 with 16GB, a 16-inch 2560 x 1600 180Hz panel and a 92Wh battery. The MSI Stealth A16 takes the slimmer route with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, the same RTX 5080 with 16GB of GDDR7, 32GB of memory, a 2TB SSD and a 240Hz OLED. Of all the gaming laptops here, the Stealth is the closest in spirit to RTX Spark: thin, OLED and good for creative work, but with an x86 chip that runs everything.

No Compromises: ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16

The ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 is the top of this list: Core Ultra 9 275HX, an RTX 5090 with 24GB of GDDR7, 32GB of DDR5, a 2TB SSD, a 240Hz Mini LED display and two Thunderbolt 5 ports. It ships with a 380W power adapter.

Winner by Category

  • Best for gaming on a budget: Acer Nitro V16.

  • Best thin laptop that games: MSI Stealth A16.
  • Best for maximum performance: ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16.

Where I land: RTX Spark is impressive for a first-generation platform, but if gaming is the main reason you're buying a laptop this fall, an RTX 50 machine is still the safer choice. Check back once anti-cheat support fills in. More models are on Newegg under RTX 5070 Ti laptops.
