The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Redefine Samsung’s Flagship

By March 2, 2015August 21st, 2019No Comments

Consumers were not pleased when Samsung launched the Galaxy S5 last year. Sure, it may have been a lot more powerful than its predecessor, but it also looked exactly the same. And, to make matters worse, the high-end specs were clouded by the Galaxy’s usual plastic build.

This time around, Samsung is doing things differently.

The Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are Unlike any Other Samsung Device

After months of speculation, Samsung finally unveiled their next generation of smartphones at the Mobile World Congress. Samsung CEO JK Shin promises these new devices will “offer what’s next in mobility” and one look at the phones proves he’s serious.

Mostly because these phones are a lot different than any other Galaxy device.

Main Specs

  • Network: LTE Cat.6 (300/50Mbps)
  • Display:
    • S6 – 1” Quad HD (2560×1440) 577ppi, Super AMOLED
    • S6 Edge – 1” Quad HD (2560×1440) 577ppi, Super AMOLED, Dual Edge
  • AP: Quad 2.1GHz + 1.5Ghz, Octacore Application Processor
  • RAM: 3GB
  • Memory: 32/62/128GB
  • OS: Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • Camera: 16MP OIS Rear, 5MP Front
  • Wireless Charging: 1(4.6W Output) & PMA 1.0(4.2W) compatible
  • Battery: 2,550mAh

These specs are impressive but it’s the lack of specs that stand out more. Samsung removed all traces of “extra features” and focused on improving the phone’s design along with it’s performance. The phone is more powerful than ever, but now it also looks nice too.

Say Goodbye to Loads of Extra Features

The S6 and S6 Edge have 40 percent fewer features than the S5. All traces of microSD slots, removable batteries and the confusing waterproofing are gone. Samsung also trimmed down the bloated TouchWiz interface many users didn’t like.

Samsung atones for the lack of features with an all new design. The new Galaxy line is composed entirely of metal and glass and the only features you’ll find on the device are the ones you’ll actually use. While most die-hard Android enthusiasts will miss a lot of the old functions, Samsung believes this phone will attract an entirely different type of audience.

It’s no secret Samsung has been accused of copying from Apple. And I’m sure many people will accuse them of doing it again after seeing this phone. But it’s hard not like something that looks this good.

Features that Matter

There’s no denying the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are beautiful devices. These are the phones we all expected in the S5 last year. But calling these new designs underpowered is a huge mistake.

These phones are equipped with the most advanced Samsung core technology available today – including the world’s first 12nm processor. They also have fully embedded wireless charging and wired charging that’s 1.5 times faster than the S5. No other Galaxy device is this advanced or looks this good.

And, for the first time ever, the Samsung Galaxy only has the features you’ll use – not the ones you can use if you really wanted.

“Our expectations of what Samsung is capable of continues to rise, and this new premium smartphone is simply a step forward in design and quality. Samsung has created a superb smartphone in which its design will evidently be a powerful draw for our customers.”

Is Form Better than Function?

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will be the most talked-about smartphones on the market when they go on sale on April 10. Available in a variety of colors including: White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz and Green Emerald; there will also be a design for every type of person. Whether it’s enough to convince Android fans to buy a phone with less features will be interesting.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, the curved display on the S6 Edge doesn’t really do anything – it’s just supposed to look nice.
