do you have to run windows 10 on lga1151ddr4 boards to make it all work?

No you don't have to use windows 10, I am running windows 7 in a media computer. Runs just fine, couldn't use windows 10 since I am using Windows Media Center. I have the intel HD 530 graphics out to a 4k tv and it looks great. Processor, memory, motherboard have all work great for the last 8 months.

Hi. For an i3 you should just go with the 6100. I can play any game including witcher 3, gta, earth defense force. Med to high settings. For gaming you do not need any processor past i5 but I find my i3 works great. Currently have a gtx 950 installed but newer model Gpus are now out. Hope this helps.

Will this CPU run XP?

It can work with xp, 7, 8, and Windows 10. However, I recommend the i3 6100. The performance boost would be negligible with the 6300. I also recommend windows 7 unless you will not be using the os online. Xp is no longer being patched and supported. For Windows 7 google kinguin.

Yes. I recommend upgrading the cooling fan. And you can over clock away.
