Not sure - the newest 'Haswell' core CPUs can natively support (if the motherboard manufacturer adds enough physical ports) 3 simultaneous displays with no graphics cards w/the new HD 4000 series integrated graphics.

Hello Nathan,

Unfortunately that i5 you have uses a different socket so it is not compatible for a swap.  Plus despite being an i7, you might get less performance than you would with the i5 since the i5 CPU is newer than the i7 CPU you were looking at.  You would want Item 9SIAKA79E19693 which is the i7 4770 which is compatible with the same socket and is an upgrade from your i5, hope this helps!

what should i buy to build a good computer around this. i want to be able to edit videos (youtube, twitch, etc) but i dont plan on playing games like league of legends or battlefield i only want to edit and schooling purposes?

You should purchase a graphics card as well as decent power supply unit and sufficient ram. When choosing your motherboard look for something that supports this CPU model. If you buy CPU not fit for the motherboard you purchase you can break them when putting it together.

If you are going to intense video editing you will want a good graphics card and ram, if you are an average youtuber looking to do simple titles and touch ups you can get away with a cheaper of both. I have this cpu and went with a good but affordable graphics card as well as ram and power supply. I am in graphic design and render out 3D animations and advanced video editing. It's important to purchase components equal to one another so that one aspect doesn't hinder your other parts.

I am new to pc building and I would really appreciate it if some could help me out here. Is this CPU good for playing and modding skyrim? Also, what kind of mobo is good for this processor? I've done some research and I just want a second opinion. I've picked out GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD3H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 or GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H LGA 1155 Intel Z77. If there are any other suggestion please list them. Thank you.

That processor will be more than strong enough to play Skrim. I would recommend the Gigabyte motherboard because Intel is phasing out it's product line. Secondly, (from my experience) the Intel BIOS update is not for the faint of heart. Just choose the Gigabyte board that has the features you must have and fits your budget.

Hello,

The drivers you are referring to are likely to come from the manufacturer of your motherboard and not the CPU.  Considering how old this CPU is you are likely to not be getting more driver updates for your board (at least for Windows 7) or get any security updates from Microsoft as Windows 7 is nearing the end of its life cycle as Microsoft prepares to cease support for that operating system.

I would recommend reaching out to the motherboard manufacturer to see if there are any updated drivers for your board that need Windows 10 installed in order to install.  Hope this clears things up!

I bought this back in 2011 and am wondering if it is supposed to run sluggishly slow now that it is 2015.  Or is it something else?

If you are experiencing sluggish processing behavior, it is likely caused by malware and or viruses. This cpu is still very much a strong choice. If you don't need additional cores due to processor heavy applications, there is no reason to make a change. This is still a favored chip among avid gamers. You can also upgrade your RAM to 8 gig and or make the switch to a solid state drive as opposed to a standard, run-of-the-mill spinner drive.

I'm doubtful this would be a CPU issue, it would seem more like a graphics card problem. Ensure that your card supports dual monitors, that you have your OS setup properly for it, and if nothing else, that the graphic cards works with dual monitors with a different setup.
