Ubuntu 14.04 will only be supported until April 2019. Can anyone verify that there is enough storage to upgrade to 16.04 or 18.04?

I am running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Server (not desktop) on the built-in storage just fine. it's cramped, but viable if you don't need a lot of storage. If you do, there is the built-in micro SD card slot where you can store data on. There is a trick to booting headless, though, search the internet (blogger) for solutions.

Good question.  I'd very surprised if this device supports OpenGL 3. I found it to be way underpowered. It was a first generation product that should have never been released, in my opinion. Future iterations of the Intel Compute Stick might be excellent, but the first generation is most definitely a dud.

Mouse and keyboard via Bluetooth? Search engine to access internet come with stick? Specifically I want to be able to access my HBOnow account. Will this work?

If HBO now works in linux then no problem... if not, then you may need the help of KODI, or playnow... or just go for the Windows Compute Stick

Probably, but why would you want to? Linux is more efficient(faster), more secure & is $free. Using Windows outside of a corporate(Enterprise) lock-down environment is like driving on a highway without seatbelts, a windshield or a reliable engine and brakes.

will it work if i connect the stick to a lcd monitor ? how do i get audio output?

The connection is HDMI so that is how it delivers audio. If the LCD monitor doesn't have speakers then you will get no sound.

It seems that the one I got odesn't have Wifi working straight out of the box.  It says "No network devices available", where can I download the Realtek Driver?

is intel atom newer than intel Pentium?

Atom and Pentium are just brand names Intel uses to cover a variety of processor technologies -- apparently in its current usage, Pentium designates processors that offer somewhat greater perforrmance than Atom but less than Core (i3, i5, i7).
