i have an asus rampage IV extreme build x79 -- will this work in that mobo? i know there is no m.2 slot, but there are adaptors and it seems this drops in the pciE slot directly? i am building for a client and they want a 2tb pci-e ssd drive, so i will need two.

Yes it uses a PCIE slot, not m.2.  Motherboard must support NVME if you plan to use it as a boot drive.  Works great on my GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7, which is Intel Z170 chipset.

Question 2

According to Intel's website this has a 5 year warranty, but newegg lists it is 3 year.  Why the discrepancy?
