Intel Optane 800P SSD

Get the Performance of Intel Optane Technology in an SSD M.2 Form Factor

Based on 3D XPoint Memory Media, the Optane 800P SSD delivers breakthrough performance in the slim M.2 form factor with standard PCIe 3.0x2/NVMe interface. Unlike traditional SSDs which suffer performance degradation over usages, the Optane 800P offers consistently high performance under load, over time even as the drive fills. Use it as an exceptional OS drive in mobile and desktop systems, and enjoy fast system boot, instantaneous application launch and responsive multi-tasking. It's also ideal for use in a mobile RAID configuration, or for high-performance specialty uses like application swap files or logging.

Available in 58GB and 116GB to suit your needs.

General information

About Intel Optane Technology

Intel Optane technology is the unique combination of 3D XPoint Memory Media with Intel’s advanced system memory controller, interface hardware, and software. Together, these building blocks unleash vast system performance potential in a range of products which deliver an unparalleled combination of high throughput, low latency, high quality of service, and high endurance.

For PC systems, Intel Optane technology is delivered in two solution types: storage in the form of SSDs, and memory as part of a PC system acceleration solution. The Intel Optane SSD 900P Series and the Intel Optane SSD 800P Series are high performing storage devices that are compatible with desktops, laptops, NUCs, and client workstations. Intel Optane memory is a smart, adaptable system accelerator for PCs with a 7th Gen Intel Core processor (or newer) and a hard disk drive.

Breakthrough Performance

Gaming enthusiasts, corporate business users, or professionals managing heavy workloads can now get the performance of Intel Optane technology in a low-power, small form-factor client SSD. The Intel Optane SSD 800P is an ideal OS drive, delivering fast boot, application launch, and smooth multi-tasking.

Featuring the low latency that is common across all Intel Optane technology products, the Intel Optane SSD 800P features breakthrough random read and write speeds*, especially at low queue depths and under demanding loads.

Consistent Responsiveness

While traditional NAND-based SSDs can lose performance over time as the drive fills, the Intel Optane SSD 800P continues to deliver high performance under load, over time as the drive fills, and across drive capacities.

Slim Form Factor Provides Usage Versatility

The M.2 slim form factor and low-power support provide the versatility to use the Intel Optane SSD 800P in mobile devices or desktops. The drive accelerates system boot time and provides quicker access to critical files, while ensuring low power consumption. The small M.2 form factor packs the performance of Intel Optane technology into a solution you can use as a primary storage drive, secondary drive, or as part of a RAID volume for truly demanding workloads.

Experience Faster Computing Now

The Intel Optane SSD 800P is an ideal OS drive, delivering fast boot, application launch, and smooth multi-tasking for a variety of users. Add an Intel Optane SSD 800P to your PC system today, and experience breakthrough performance and consistent responsiveness.

Exellent performance as a cache drive 10/14/2019 9:09:42 AM

Pros: When setup properly, Optane is a huge boost in performance for your computer. I reached near-advertised speeds in read-write benchmarks on my machine after installing it.

Cons: The only con is that you won't get the performance you could get if you don't know how to use one of these. They aren't plug-and-play drives like an SSD. Negative reviews you might see on optane that talk about how their performance hasn't improved as much as they expected probably haven't set it up correctly.

Overall Review: I would definitely recommend the Optane NVMe SSD as long as you are willing to put in the time to set it up correctly. If you want a plug and play solution, just get a standard SSD for a lower price. You'll still get great performance.

Pretty nice; easy to setup 4/17/2019 12:50:16 AM

Pros: It's easy to setup; just slot it into the M.2 slot, format it and you're done.
It has really high 4K speeds that beat even a 970 PRO by a metric ton in some cases (see crystaldiskmark 4KQ1T1).
It has really great endurance.
It has really stellar latency (even lower than even flagship NVMes such as the 970 EVO in some cases).

Cons: Bad sequential performance compared to most NVMe SSDs (still a good upgrade from SATA SSDs however)
This doesn't speed up your Windows experience whatsoever; neither do any other NVMe SSDs like the 970 EVO.
Very small drive for a really high price.

Overall Review: I bought this as a Windows boot drive, and in a couple years when 60GB becomes way too small I'll use it instead as a pagefile drive.
From the reviews here, only buy directly from NewEgg. Apparently, BeachAudio just sends a similar capacity SSD instead of this one, which is weird. Can't confirm it though as I bought from NewEgg directly.
My 4KQ1T1 speeds were 170/160MB/s, unlike some pretty misleading reviews I found online.
No, I'm not sponsored by Intel or anybody to write this review. I actually bought it.

Fast computing with the Intel Optane PCIe drive 4/10/2019 3:07:06 AM

Pros: Makes your system fly, if you use a 8th Gen. Processor or better(yes can be put into others, but even the 7th Gen. series doesn't use it as well) and be aware, this caches more for your platter drive than a fast SSD you also have in the system. Make sure to go into your BIOS and activate it as Optane once installed.

Cons: Was more expensive at the time when I purchased, then it is now.

Overall Review: This is for newer systems and MB's etc. to use it effectively for it's native use. Can also be just formatted as a NVMe SSD, but that would be silly since you could purchase one with larger storage for the money. Do read up on Intel's site for tips using them before building a system with one, and also carefully follow your Motherboards instructions to get the best use out of them. And update your MB's BIOS 1st thing before setting up if you haven't already.

Plug and Play 11/28/2018 12:40:45 PM

Pros: Fast and reliable--so far.

Cons: Expensive

Overall Review: I was apprehensive about buying this because it's not on the "approved" storage list for my Asrock B450M Pro4 motherboard. Nevertheless, the UEFI recognized it no problem. Elementary Juno installed without a hitch and is running fast and sweet right now. Keeping fingers crossed...

Fast but Expensive 5/6/2018 8:28:36 PM

Pros: 1) Essentially Optane Memory product Version 2 - faster, more power efficient, & larger capacity when used this way.
2) Can be used as small capacity system drive like any normal NVMe that uses 2 PCIe lanes when used as marketed.

Cons: Cost, obviously!

Overall Review: I used initially as designed for dedicated system drive & saw excellent performance overall. Then I used as cache using the Optane Memory driver with an old, 1.5 TB Barracuda HDD laying around & performance is excellent for normal PC use. The larger capacity holds more of what's repeatedly used but when throwing around the largest files (DVD or BD rips, RAW photos, etc) speeds will likely drop toward the HDD speeds. That's a fair trade off for many, if not most home users.

Manufacturer Response:
The Intel Optane SSD 800P Series is designed for storage in mobile and desktop systems which packs the performance of Intel Optane technology in the slim M.2 form factor. Intel Optane memory is entirely a different product when compared to Intel Optane SSD 800p https://ark.intel.com/compare/125298,99742

Super fast in RAID-0 configuration 3/20/2018 3:32:47 PM

Pros: Two of these in RAID-0 configuration R—W: 2,800MB/s — 1,700MB/s. In other words, very-very-very fast.

Cons: Price.
