Hi Andrew,

Yes, it does come with a fan and a heatsink, although what is included is the minimal necessary for CPU cooling. Which is why I always upgrade the CPU cooler because I know I will be putting it under greater loads.

Question 2

Would this processor be adequate for HD streaming and uploading? I need something that would be able to seamlessly run Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder, and I don't really understand how the power structure of computer processors work. D:

You could use this processor for what you describe.

In terms of streaming, the only issue I could see is whether the MOBO for the project has adequate network performance and the router/switch. Most media devices will only have an issue if the format is unrecognized. Transcoding on the fly may demand some from the CPU, but I think as long as multiple instances aren't running it should handle most HD content. My home server streams HD content via WMP, serves files and pulls feeds from a handful mediocre IP cams running an Intel Core i3 2100t.

I don't think it would be optimal for any encoding purpose though. The G2020 is a very good processor, but more suitable for things not as potentially resource intensive as encoding. The G2020 also doesn't support Intel Quick Sync, Turbo Boost, Hyper Threading and a few other items.

I'm not familiar w/ the program you list, but if it is similar in any way to other encoding software it may be a better idea to opt for a higher line processor or processor w/ more cores. Another option would be to use a discrete graphics card for your encode/decode needs; assuming the software will support it.

I do like this processor, but as a general task processor. The Core i products can be drastically faster.

While I do use AMD processors I have not found them to be superior in terms of encoding when comparing apples to apples. For the price sensitive though, the lower buy-in for multiple cores can make a big difference.

It works reasonably well in a desktop environment - my wife's system uses this CPU in a three monitor desktop setup, using 2 of these for displaying streaming stock charts/quotes, and the 3rd for other tasks. She's been operating this configuration for over a year now, and is quite pleased overall.

Question 4

Does the Intel HD graphics on the processor support multiple monitors? For example, if you have a motherboard that has both a DVI and D-SUB connector on-board, can you hook one monitor to each port and run dual displays?

I'm using this processor in an Ubuntu 12.04LTS (Linux) system, and it doesn't recognize a dual monitor capability.

For informational purposes, I'm using a different LGA 1155 processor, the Intel G860, also bought from Newegg, in an Ubuntu 13.04 system, and it does recognize the dual monitor capability.  I think the G860 cost about $90.

In my experience, if the system configurator recognizes dual monitor capability, it can "be made" to work.  I have not tried dual monitors on the G860 system, but it might be an interesting experiment for this upcoming long weekend!

Possibly the difference is between the Ivy Bridge (G2020) and Sandybridge (G860) graphics subsystems.

they are two different levels or processors where this one does run ivy bridge and the i7 had a significant higher level or processing power the graphics is not determined by the processor but the graphics card either card or on board

I hadn't checked before your question.  I get the same values, EXCEPT when I launch a cpu-intensive task, then the core jumps to 2893 MHz.  None of this matters in my application - an inexpensive build for a normal office environment: this CPU works fine for that.
