Pros: The speed at which this thing can access data is absolutely insane. I've got this connected through an RES3FV288 SAS expander to WD 12TB Gold SATA drives, and in a RAID6 it reads and writes at over 700 MB/s. Amazing considering RAID6 is usually slow, but not with this!
Cons: The cooling solution Intel put on this card is severely inadequate. I initially had it connected normally as it comes in an ATX case, but the chip temperatures exceeded 100C, obviously not acceptable. The manual says it needs 200 LFPM of airflow... ok apparently 3x 140mm case intake fans isn't good enough for that. I ultimately purchased a Noctua 40mm cooling fan (perfect size) and mounted it on the heatsink of this card and the expander, which brought the temps to around 55C. I was very impressed with how quiet the Noctua 40mm fan is at 4500 RPM, and barely makes a noise. Intel should have designed it with active cooling from the start.
Overall Review: I use this with the AXXRMFBU4 backup unit to unleash the full potential of the card, and I am not disappointed. except for the initial heat issues, the card is a winner.
