The Intel RAID Controller SASUC8I is ideal for servers and workstations needing high-speed data transfers with the option for entry-level hardware RAID data protection. This RAID controller allows for point-to-point connections with a SAS universal interconnect interface allowing for 1.5 and 3Gb/s SATA hard disk drives along with logical SCSI compatibility for the extra reliability and manageability that SAS drives provide.

While other SAS controllers drive large RAID software stacks between the host CPU and controller, the SASUC8I utilizes the embedded CPU in the LSI SAS1068E ASIC to perform RAID 0, 1, and 1E/10E operations. By reducing RAID code overhead, the SASUC8I offers superior internal READ/WRITE performance.

  • newegg Ultra Thin Driver LSI Fusion-MPT architecture provides over 140,000 I/Os per second while communicating over the PCI Express 8-lane Host Bus.
  • newegg Cost-effective Data Protection Provides a low-cost RAID 0, 1, and 1E/10E solution for entry-level server and workstation environments where high-performance and reliable data protection are required.
  • newegg SAS or SATA Storage Connect SAS or SATA devices within the array. Use SAS drives for speed, reliability, and scalability; use high-capacity SATA drives for budget-friendly storage. The SASUC8I supports up to 122 physical devices in SAS mode which is ideal for employing JBODs (Just a Bunch Of Disks) or up to 14 devices in RAID 0, 1, 1E/10E mode through direct connect device attachment or through expander backplane support.

Limited to 2.2TB 4/11/2013 5:31:54 PM

Pros: I've owned this card since mid-2011, and it has worked great! Go to and upgrade the firmware. Backup your existing firmware before you upgrade. Make *SURE* you use the proper revision version (B1,B2,or B3) when you upgrade. I used sasflash from linux which upgraded the firmware while the normal OS was running live. Crazy!

Cons: However, I could NOT get it to recognize a 3TB drive. I upgraded to the latest LSI firmware (1.33). I tried a couple other Linuxes. I managed to hook them to my highpoint 1640 and a Knoppix boot allowed me to see them as 3T and I built a 3T GPT partition. But unlike the earlier poster who said this card worked once you built 3T partitions elsewhere, no luck for me, back on this raid controller my 3T went back to 2.2TB. I'm out of ideas. I just moved my 3TB back to the 1640 where it is a happy 3TB. This controller just cant go past the 2.2Tb limit.

Overall Review: NewEgg needs to add a "Can handle >2.2TB" filter to the controller card search.

Stay under 2.19 TB 4/11/2013 1:58:17 PM

Pros: I've owned this card since 2011 and it has worked fantastic! It exists compatibly with a second multi-port SATA card in my debian linux server, faithfully handling a total of 11 drives on linux in a variety of raids.

Cons: Unfortunately, when I upgraded two 750G drives to two 3T's, the card doesn't recognize the drives above 2047GB. I've upgraded the firmware and BIOS straight from and it still sees them at 2T's. The second SATA card is from a different manufacturer, I'm going to see if that has a firmware update, but I think I'm going to have to buy a third SATA card for these two 3T's... sigh.

Overall Review: I'm still hoping there's something still to do. My card went from v1.26 to v1.33. Maybe my linux needs to be updated, I'm going to try a LiveCD.

2TB vs. 3TB 12/3/2012 5:14:16 PM

Pros: None yet: I haven't received it yet.

Cons: None yet: I haven't received it yet.

Overall Review: I bought this card from another source because Newegg is currently sold out. Sad. I'd rather deal with Newegg.

I was told that this is pretty much the same as the LSI SAS3081E-R 3Gb/s PCI-Express card, which I bought and had to return. That card has the same feature: recognizing 3TB drives as 2TB.

I got around that limitation by connecting my drives to the motherboard first, booting into windows 7 ultimate 64-bit, getting into disk management, and formatting the drives to 3TB. Then I rebooted with the drives connected to the card, and although the card setup still reported them as 2TB, once Windows booted, they showed up as 3TB.

Hope this helps.

Great card, except for no 3TB support 11/30/2012 5:27:23 AM

Pros: I'm sure the card works fine, but.......

Cons: This card does not support 3TB drives. It will see the drives and allow you to format them but you'll only get about 2TB of usable space. It wouldn't be an issue except that this is not listed in the product specs and I didn't find out until after I ordered the card and had to return it. The only reason I didn't knock off more than one Egg is that otherwise the card is very highly regarded and I didn't want to drop the rating by too much.

Overall Review: To get 3TB support from an LSI/Intel RAID card apparently you need one of the cards with SATAIII/6Gbps support.

Pros: It's an LSI card (the PCB even has the LSI logo on it).

8 ports.

Good Linux support.

Cons: It comes with Intel firmware that doesn't support IT mode.

Overall Review: The LSI firmware available for this card allows IT mode to be used in case you want a software RAID or a JBOD setup.

wow 11/16/2012 12:48:20 PM

Pros: Awesome that's the only word that comes to mind. It dropped the core temp to about 28C. Installation is a breeze about 25 min an you are up and running.

Cons: Easy installation
Works REALLY well.

Solid Card 10/22/2012 8:55:21 PM

Pros: Great controller for Linux based file servers. I've been running this controller attached to 8 1TB drives in one of my file servers since Sep-2011 with no problems. Works great with N82E16816116099 - 3Ware SFF8087 cables. I run the card as an 8-port JBOD and use software RAID and it has worked very well for me thus far. I can stream 4 1080p movies simultaneously while still conducting light duty file server tasks (backups running over WAN link, NFS mounts from many sources etc).

Cons: This controller card isn't going to win any races. Not the fastest but consistent and reliable.

Overall Review: While not the fastest card out there (on-board controller actually seems a little faster) it can't be beat at this price point. I wish I there was a PCI-E Gen 2 model with 6Gbps link speed at a similar price point. If one doesn't show, I'll go ahead and pick up 1-2 more of these for my next file server build out.

OEM Intel 9/27/2012 2:09:16 PM

Pros: It "just works" with CentOS 5.5 x64 and you don't have to compile a driver.

Cons: It's not SATA6.

Overall Review: The card's form factor is described as 'Low Profile', and by definition, that is correct. Make note, this is an OEM card, so you will not get the low profile bracket. This was almost a deal breaker for me, but I was able to remove the stock bracket as well as the piece of plastic used to redirect lights from the card to the bracket and install a low profile bracket from another card.
