Question 1

Can you connect more than one of these units to one PC at the same time? From what I can tell this unit is connected via IP using a management utility that allows for 1 r/w connection at any given time.

Accepted Answer

You should be able to add multiple units if you connect them to the network (rather than directly to a PC). I have my enclosure ("Device") connected via Ethernet to my router and each physical disk inside is controlled ("registered") separately within the software on whether it has R/W or Read Only capability. Multiple partitions (drive letters) are also supported within each physical drive. As more enclosures/devices are added, they need to be registered separately with their own unique hardware keys, but it should allow multiple R/W access across multiple devices. Keep in mind that empty (un-formatted) disks will need to be initialized/formatted and allocated to the OS before they show up as drive letters. The gigabit interface via Ethernet has amazing throughput if connected via a gigabit network -- I have not tried the USB interface, so I can't speak to how that would work if multiple units were connected to a single PC.

Question 2

I'm considering this product with a single WD Red 3TB drive but I'm concerned because I keep seeing that its controller is limited to 2TB???

Accepted Answer

Interestingly, I purchased my 352UN with the same WD Red 3TB drive. I could not get the 352UN to recognize the drive but the drive works fine using an external USB drive adapter cable. The only thing I remember reading about drive capacity limitations is a maximum of 4TB for both bays. I could be wrong about that though. As a side note, I have been using several Ximeta NDAS Ethernet/USB External drive enclosures in Ethernet mode for about 10 years with great satisfaction. They use the same NDAS software as the 352UN. That's why I wanted the 352UN in the first place. Because of my good performance with my existing drive enclosures, I'm determined to get to the bottom of my HDD issues. Being able to keep the drives connected to my switch 24/7 giving all PC's on my network access without the need of an always-on "server" PC, and the option to take any of the drives on the go because of the USB capability, is really a useful set of options for me. I also love the fact that the drives don't require setting up network shares. They just show up and function as local drives. Yet the greatest thing about the NDAS software is the drive access control it provides. A great feature if you have kids. The list goes on... I know I'm going on and on without really even answering the question, but I wanted to make sure that you get the impression that these enclosures are totally worth ironing out any issues. When they are working, they are great!. I plan on buying at least two more.
