I have a 2008 Macbook Pro. I recently installed Mavericks on it and my machine has become really sluggish, so I was hoping that upgrading the RAM would help out.

I currently have 2GB of RAM on the machine, and was wondering if this 2GB RAM would work as an addition, or I should buy two 1GB Ram modules and install it that way?

2GB is pretty small these days. The MBP has 2 slots for memory. The 2008 MBP will go up to 6GB, using a 4GB + a 2GB stick. Your MBP probably has (2) 1GB sticks. You will probably need to replace both, either with (2) 2GB sticks or a 4GB + 2GB. Check out everymac for useful info.
