I can't speak to the audio quality because I'm not using that feature (Interesting, I guess, since I'm an Audio Engineer). In order to record and playback audio, you need a camera with a built in microphone and a cable to support that feature. None of which is bundled with any of the DVR-camera combos. So, you'd have to buy an audio capable camera and cable and add it to the system. The 4 & 8 channel KGuard DVR's have two audio inputs and the 16 channel has four inputs. The 16 channel DVR can also handle more PTZ capable cameras if you plan to use them.

The system:
Overall, I'm not happy with the system and cannot recommend it.
The EL1621 DVR that I bought has multiple issues and I find out (after the sale) that KGuard does not do advance replacement of their products even with the proper RMA. So, if I want to return the DVR for repair of the factory problems, my security system has to be down for the duration. This would have been a deal killer had I known about it in advance.

The image quality 600TVL cameras that come bundled with the DVR are quite good, even at night. Curiously, if you wish to add more cameras, KGuard does not offer more of the same cameras that came with the system but, will steer you to another of their cameras.That said I will get to test KGuard's RMA process because one camera has failed.

Tech help is non-existent. I have emailed them twice with no reply.

I suggest looking at another brand.

I see there are 8 camera cables included, what length are they?

The cables are 60'.  Also I was able to install a 2 tb drive with no issue
