Question 1

Would you say that this system is pretty much "Plug & Play" or do I still need to purchase additional items if I want this system to work properly?

Example - I originally ordered the exact system without the HDD on accident - then I was told that I needed to order the HDD if I wanted to record - so I am in the process of returning that one. And am now just trying to find a SIMPLE system that will record around my home. No bells. No whistles needed.

Is this particular model relatively easy to install - Ready to go? Can anyone give info on any of the extras that I will need? - Even as small as a Drill?

Mom of 2 asking... gonna have to install this myself! Yikes!

Nicky, I purchased this system for my father, he installed it with no problems. Everything is in the box that you would need for the system to function and record. Tools required would be a drill and a 5/8 inch bit, phillips screwdriver, and ladder as needed. The problems with install will be where are the cameras to be placed? The cables provided are only 60 feet long. If you are placing cameras outside, getting the cable to them. Going into the attic or thru walls? This would be up to you and how you want the install to look. Caution not to drill into any home wiring or plumbing. The only thing my dad got extra was a 15 ft SVGA cable to connect the DVR to his TV, the system comes with a short BNC to RCA cable, it wasn't long enough for what he needed. Final thoughts, the system has good quality video, don't expect HD quality or being able to read license plates. I'm sure setting up the online viewing would be difficult, my father didn't mess with it.

Question 2

I have this system and its all installed mostly except the internet which I will do tonite - but my question is - I see that I have the Option to make the cameras ZOOM - but they DO NOT. I try several times and they just will not zoom. why is the option there is they do not zoom?  is there an after market or something I can do to make them zoom in and out?

ALSO,  I have 2 inside my house up against the window - during the day it is Fine! at night there is an Awful Glare! - Any Ideas/Suggestions about how to rid the glare at night?

the included cameras can not be controlled. You would need PTZ cameras. (Pan/Tilt/Zoom). As for the glare, it is the reflection from the night vision ir leds off of the glass window. Cameras need to placed outdoors.

So is this a 8 channel system with 4 cameras or a 4 channel system with 4 cameras? The description some places say 8 channel and other place says 4 channel. The product image shows 8 inputs.

Ok I'm going to buy this system! Can anyone tell me the name of the cables I would need to order in order to lengthen 2 cameras - 2 of them will go outside -so I am sure that I will need longer cables for those 2 cameras only - are they the SVGA Cables? Or do they have a different name? Are they both Male Ends? Should I just order 100ft cables to be safe?

Go to NewEgg and search on "security camera cable" .  Both ends have a BNC, and there is a coaxial power male on one end with a coaxial power female on the other.  I have used 100' cables and just wound the extra in a roll.

What is the length of the cables for the cameras?
