I purchased this unit thinking it came with a 500gb HDD. I was interested because of a dealnews listing that said:

I just received the unit, but it doesn't appear to have a HDD.  Was the Dealnews listing incorrect?

Apparently, the dealnews listing was incorrect. I got my link to the Newegg offer from techbargains, which made no indication of an included hard drive. Had one been included, the $69.95 price for the unit would have been less than the typical cost of a 500GB drive. Here's what they had:

Question 2

Some DVRs will only allow all camera's FPS to equal 60. So 2 cameras running at 30 FPS each or 4 running at 15 FPS each. Is there such a restriction on this unit?

The available resolutions on this unit are: CIF, HD1, and D1. The total frame rate for all eight channels is 240 FPS, which means that the maximum frame rate per channel is 30 FPS. You can find the user manual on the KGuard web site.

Question 3

Can this be used with any smartphone or tablet such as the iPhone or iPad?  I noticed that it is requiring Internet Explorer so I am doubting that it will work on other non-Microsoft products.

You can use the kview app from either marketplace.  I prefer IPcamviewer by robert chow.  I have used it for many years and best I have found.  He has an ios and android versions.

Some DVRs have a restriction where adding up all camera's FPS has to equal 60. So 2 cameras running at 30 FPS each or 4 cameras running at 15 FPS each. Does this unit have such a restriction?

i've run this with 2 x cameras at 720p/30fps.  the frame rate output from the cameras depends on the codec in use and whether you want a VBR or fixed bitrate.  i haven't run it with more than 2 cameras,  but you can configure the output bitrate of the cameras so you don't come close to saturating the Ethernet or disk bandwidth

Is there a hard drive already installed and if so what is the size. If there isn't a hard drive what do you recommend?
