This says it is specifically for Apple Notebook.  Is there a similar product designed specifically for Apple iMac?

The iMac line uses the same memory modules as the laptops. You just have to make sure the other specifications are right. Check Apple's support site for technical specifications on your exact model.

is this compatible with my imac5,1 2.33 ghz intel core 2 duo?

no it would not going to work with duo core =) It might increase a little of speed but would not going recognize all performance of this ram. 
Why would you buy a ram of 16 gb if duo core would only recognize at the top of 8gb of ram with lower frequency and probably lower voltage.
It might not gonna work at all.
