Dramatically increase the performance of your existing system with Kingston's SSDNow V solid-state drive! Aimed at everyday users and small to medium businesses, the second-generation Kingston SSDNow V Series improves the performance of the drive without increasing the price and supports Windows 7 TRIM functionality, which helps the SSD maintain high performance through the life of the drive. For notebooks, SSDNow drives are a perfect replacement for hard drives resulting in faster, more reliable performance. Making this change will improve a notebook's efficiency in a wide range of tasks, from booting up to running the most robust operating system and demanding applications. The SSDNow V Series drive uses a standard SATA interface but, unlike a regular HDD, SSD is very rugged and built with no moving parts, making it ideal for power users and road warriors who push the limits of their notebooks. Other benefits include reduced power usage, less noise and less heat generation.

Kingston's SSDNow V Series offers performance gains and power consumption reductions at a fraction of the cost of a new system. For added peace of mind, they're backed by 24/7 tech support, a three-year warranty and legendary Kingston reliability.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Acting without any moving parts, the Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2BN/128GB solid-state drive boasts multiple advanced features including zero mechanical noise, faster data rates compared to conventional HDDs, over 1-million-hour life span, ultra-low power consumption and impressive shock, vibration and extreme temperature resistance. With these breakthrough capabilities, the SSD meets all the demanding requirements for high-performance storage.
  • newegg Windows 7 TRIM Support The Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2BN/128GB solid-state drive offers Windows 7 TRIM support, which uses ATA commands to increase the SSD write speeds in Windows 7. It also cuts down on the amount of data to be deleted, increasing the SSD’s lifespan and allowing it to delete garbage data in advance.
  • newegg SATA 3.0 Gb/s Interface The Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2BN/128GB solid-state drive features the next-generation SATA II interface supporting up to 3.0 Gb/s data transfer rates, Native Command Queuing (NCQ) and hot-pluggable point-to-point connections for optimum performance, efficiency, convenience and flexibility.
  • newegg Notebook Upgrade Kit The Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2BN/128GB solid-state drive comes with a notebook upgrade kit that contains all the accessories needed for a smooth upgrade, including Acronis True Image HD system cloning software, USB enclosure and cable.

I have always loved Kingston 2/10/2011 1:22:34 PM

Pros: Super easy installation. And they give you a case to make your old laptop hard drive into an external drive! I have used Kingston ram for years and they always have made the best ram so I expect the best in their SSD and I received it.

Cons: None. Really, none!

Overall Review: They offered this with a $55 rebate off of the $225 price which is crazy cheap. I already received my rebate check.'

Great drive 1/20/2011 7:38:47 AM

Pros: Fast compaired to the 5400rpm drive it replaced. Read speds went from 15meg/s to 150+. Its about 18 months old now, has been in 2 laptops and now sits in my i5-2500k desktop, still works like new.

Cons: Starting to look a little dated compaired to the latest generation SSD.

Overall Review: Cost $70 more 18 months ago.
Enclosure still works too

RTC Problem on some Dell laptops? 11/1/2010 2:51:53 AM

Pros: A nice bundle, well priced. This SSD is not as fast as some, but still much faster than a platter drive. The external enclosure is handy, and the cloning software is feature-rich.

Cons: In a Dell Inspiron 1420 (Bios A10, Win7) this drive worked briefly, then caused a boot failure: "Time of day clock stopped." Could not even boot to rom. Replacing RTC battery did not help. The only thing that cured the problem was removing the ssd. I duplicated this problem in a second 1420.

Overall Review: The Dell RTC problem seems to resemble a bug that appeared with some linux distros on these laptops, but whether it is related I cannot say. I installed another one of these ssds in an AMD-based Acer Aspire laptop, and it works great. The cloning software would not run properly on the Acer, so I used another computer to clone the hd to ssd (usb-to-usb).

Runs great 10/31/2010 10:52:27 PM

Pros: I bought this to replace a dying Seagate factory drive, and performance has been enhanced. Things tend to load faster, especially on boot. Windows 7 loads within a minute, and most applications come up within a second or two. Loading in games is also improved-- no more long waiting screens, I can just go right ahead and play.

Cons: This is a power hog on laptops as many have mentioned. I tested low-power activity on battery, and half the battery power was gone after about an hour of use. If you install in a laptop, be prepared to haul around the power cord.

Also worth noting is that there have been occasions when increased disk activity can cause slowdowns... but that's not something to complain about.

Quite nice 9/15/2010 11:07:06 AM

Pros: I just bought a new MacBook Pro and put this drive into it instead of the stock 5400rpm drive. The performance is superb, rubbing up against 200mbytes/second read speed. Boot-up times are a fraction of what they were even with the brand new HDD. The laptop has a whole different feel, quiet and vibration-free.

Cons: The first drive I received was a dud, and that wasted a good deal of my time. The replacement is working great, though, so I'm happy anyway.

great 8/24/2010 5:59:47 PM

Pros: it works like it should, toshiba notebook boots up in less the 20 seconds.

Cons: I believe somebody said something about using more power than a normal hdd and I guess it does. I noticed that the notebook battery doesn't last as much as before upgrade.

Overall Review: I guess its pretty good but I would not buy another one made by kingston. I would if it was for a desktop but not for notebooks.
