Is this a standard stick of DDR2 ram, or does it work only with dell computers?

It is standard DDR2 RAM. It just has been tested to work in specific Dell models. The CAS timing specs and the voltage are most important in determining compatibility. Use the memory search tool at the Kingston memory site to double check.

Notice Dell computers mentioned here - BUT - I have a Gateway FX541XG desktop and desire to upgrade. Is this particular RAM suitable for my system?

Yes, it has nothing to do with brand of PC. Just the motherboard being able to accept DDR2 800 RAM

My Computer is a Dell Precision T3400 with Inter Core2 Quad CPU @ 2.5 GHz.  Current RAM is 4 (1 GB)=4.0 GB.  My main task is using Adobe Premier Pro CS6 & Photoshop CS6 in producing and rendering DVDs.  Adobe recommends 8 GB for use of their software.  I am thinking of boosting my memory to 8 GB.  It appears Kingston 2 GB 240 Pin DDR2 SDRAM (quantity of 4) is a candidate solution.  Is this my best and only option?

I have been using Kingston memory for years. They are my preferred manufacturer because their quality is top notch and I've never had a problem with their memory. My last project was upgrading the memory in 40 Dell OptiPlex 755s to get ready for Windows 7 upgrades. I used the same sticks that you'd use in your T3400.

I am using this in a Dell Optiplex 360.  The manufacturer's part # is A6993648.  Same specs as this product from newegg.  Will this product work in my Dell?  Can't imagine why it shouldn't but since you list compatible Dell part #s thought I would check especially since I plan on using this product in at least 5 other upgrades.
