Why are the connections on the back of the speakers different on both?

I'm not technical at all. It took me a couple of tries to get things to work by trying different combinations of the wiring. I was also running another set of speakers, so it was more complicated that I thought it would be. Once I got it dialed in the speakers sound great. Sorry I don't have a technical solution.

Is it two units or one?
