Can I use this as an antenna for my HDTV?

If I understand your question correctly, no.  It's a TV tuner, not an antenna.  Like your TV it needs an antennae or cable/satellite connection.  A very small TV/FM antennae comes with it, but unless you live very near your local stations it's pretty useless.

But you can use the device, in conjunction with Windows Media Center or the included software (I'd recommend Windows Media Center) like a DVR to record TV shows on your computer which you can then play back on your HDTV, assuming it's connected to your computer with an HDMI cable.  If you have another type of connection from your computer to your TV you can still play recorded shows on your TV, only the sound will come from the computer speakers and not the TV itself.

is this the proper device I should use to basically use an older tv (with only s-video, rca and co-ax connections) as a computer moniter (showing what is on my computer screen on the tv)?

No, this device receives over the air HDTV and inputs it for viewing on your computer.  It has RCA/S-Video/Component inputs for inputing video onto your computer, not out.  For example, I input an older VCR into my computer with the RCA input on this device and was able to change the analog VCR input onto the PC where I could record it as an MP4 and make a digital version (youtube , DVD , etc.).

For outputing video,you will need a video output device.  I really don't recommend using an older TV for a computer monitor, quality will be bad.  Go to a second hand store and look for a used LCD monitor that has the same connector as your PC, either HDMI or VGA output.

I am looking for a way to capture audio from my cable music stations and eventually putting it on a flash drive.   Do you have any equipment that will do this?

The KWorld Hybrid TV stick has a built in FM tuner.  It can find a station either by using the 'tuner', the 'seek' function or entering the stations frequency.  To record the station you can run a cable from the 'speaker' outlet to the 'mic' in port and record using a free program like 'Audacity'.  From there convert the 'wav' file to MP3 and play where ever you want.

I have never used a device like this and have a few questions. First off, can this be used without being connected to the internet? Secondly, When you say it can watch tv, is that free or how does that work?

You do not need the internet unless there is updates to the hardware of software you are using.  Windows Media Center uses the internet to get a program guide to give you information channels.  You can watch antenna TV with this device.  This device only takes TV signal and displays it on your PC.  So if you had a digital antenna (not cable or satellite) you hook the antenna up to this device then use a software either the one provided by this device or another( I use Windows Media Center ).  The software will give you options on how to set up your TV signal.  It is free because it is antenna TV which will get you whatever your antenna can bring in.

I see it supports up to windows 7.  Is there an update or something to make it run windows 8?  None of these usb tv tuners support windows 8.

I haven't had any issues with any tuners and Win8.1. I think the main problem people have with Win8.1, is that unless you have 8.1Pro and pay separately for it, there's no Windows Media Center. If you do not have/do those things, you will gave to use the provided program with the tuners, which generally do not even begin to compare with Media Center.

Question 7

Does this device support HD using Clear QAM? I see in the specs that it supports HD using ATSC, over-the-air, but there's no mention of resolution using QAM.  I plan to use a USB tuner stick with cable TV service, not over the air, and want one that works in HD, as my PC is setup for it (1080p monitor, video card supports HD, Blu-Ray drive, etc).  Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately I have not had time to install this yet.  On the back of the package it states "Enjoy ATSC TV, Clear QAM on your PC or laptop with high definition up to 1920 x 1080i.".

The stick worked fine with my laptop but I could not get the remote to work at all.  Nor could I get anything but lower channels on my cable.

I dont see why not. I used it purely as a tv tuner but i believe  it works as a capture device. I know that kworld makes a pure usb capture device you might be better off with.
