The title (and accompanying image) says this product has 8 input channels, but the description says only. Which one is correct?

The LaView LV KD1884Y - Has 8 BNC video inputs (cameras connections) and 1 RCA audio input (microphone).

FYI
I have my setup with 8 cameras.  The original 4 are visible outside and 4 mini hidden cameras in entry locations of our house.  I also added a hidden microphone around the front door. When we leave the house, we arm the inside cameras to send email/text to our phones.  The motion detection features will send 3 images of the video to our email.  The audio works with only one of the 8 channels (one channel can have audio/video record).

Which browsers work with this unit?  Firefox, Chrome, Safari?

The playback and liveview plugin does not work in linux for chrome or firefox.  I wish they would have html5 to stream the video to brower.  Not some OS specific proprietary plugin.

What is the minimum HD size that will work, I have an SSD 128 GB Crucial drive and wish to use it?

My setup is set to record on motion dectection on 8 cameras at 960x480 15fps.   I also set the recordings to expire after 60 days.   I currently have about 1TB used on 3TB drive.  So it will depend what your setup/desires are.

I would suggest going to a larger disk drive.  SSD advange is read/write speed but has a write life expectancy and higher cost.  The disk drive read/write speed is not a issue with this device.  I assume that have more time for recordings would be more desirable than over killing the read/write speed.

3TB is the max the device allows, so a 1TB drive is good place to start in my opinion.

how many gigabytes is the dvr system??

no recording unless you add a HDD.  The description says NO HDD.  You can you can purchase and install one.  I installed a 750 GB HDD.

can I use a external hard drive with this? would like to mount hard drive app 15 ft away from unit

No. The DVR only supports internal SATA
