How is the screen quality and how hot does it get with gaming?

The screen quality looks a little bit wash out for normal use but gaming wise it's excellent. Hadn't had any issues with heat but then again I haven't hard core gaming on it yet. Some issues I did see  the ram spiking up to 40% usage even though I haven't started any programs yet. Removing a lot of the software that it comes with helps lower the usage. The other issue I notice was the battery consumption. This sucker needs to be plugged in if your going to be gaming on it.

Can anyone confirm whether or not this model comes with the external optical drive? The description says yes but the picture doesn't show it as other newegg models do so i'd like to be sure.
