Does this unit have a back lit keyboard?

We purchased this unit on behalf of one of our customer's, so I do not have the unit close by where I can check it.  However, I don't recall that the keyboard was back lit.

It does not come with MSOffice preinstalled. May have to buy it separately.

Does this system have speakers?

Yes.  They are adequate.  When I'm studying (or going to be in one place for a while) I have a pair of Altec Orbits that perform really well.  They connect through a USB port, are small and light-weight, and provide good sound quality.  There are a lot of high-quality speakers available now that have these qualities so you might consider buying a higher-end pair.  Sound quality is always going to be an issue with laptops, but if you invest in a good pair (or system) you can use them on different computers without worrying too much about it.  Hope this helps.

Is it fast? 
I mainly use it for youtube videos, researching papers, streaming pandora, facebook, email and online shopping. I am upgrading from a slow computer and I really worry that I will not get a fast enough computer.

Yes. Lenova is the leader in computer technology.  You must know that two contributing factors on speed are as follows: (1) what package plan you buy from your provider, and (2) before you sign the papers to buy the Lenova, ask the Rep to check it for viruses already infiltrated in the computer.  I did have to hire someone to clean up my brand new Lenova and remove all the invasions. After the cleanup, then the speed effectively met personal needs.

Does this laptop have Bluetooth?

Yes this laptop does have bluetooth built into it.  This is a great laptop for the price, especially since they lowered the price to 599.  I paid 699 two months ago when i got it.  I'm a student at Syracuse University majoring in Information Technology and I also have a degree in Computer and Electronics Technology as well.  I would say for the components you get in this laptop, you can't beat it for the price.  BUY IT!!

if it says windows 8 
why when I try to go into Microsoft for windows it ask for a key?
I have to buy that separate?

I did not buy/get any key from Microsoft to use the laptop. This came with Windows 8 preinstalled which I upgraded to 8.1 from the Mirosoft store for free afer first login. I remember when I first powered it up, it did ask to create a user profile with e-mail ID and password (for login purposes...not your mail password). Microsoft then sent a code to this mail ID to validate the account. It does not have to be a Microsoft e-mail account...Yahoo, Gmail or any other is fine as long I could access it.

There was a separate key sent by Microsoft in an e-mail to buy apps from their store. This was a $25 promotion offered at that time. This key was NOT needed to use the laptop.

Im comparing this against a similar model that says it features 1600x900 HD but it's a 14 inch screen, this says it has a larger screen. is the 1600x900 something else? Im confused. thanks. Also does this have a HDMI port?

The Lenovo IdeaPad S510p does have 1 HDMI port.

It is entirely possible that another laptop model has a smaller screen with a higher resolution.

The dimensions and resolution for an LCD panel are not necessarily related. For example, Acer says their G276HL 27" desktop monitor has a resolution of 1920x1080. And, Apple says their iPad Mini's 7.9" retina display has a resolution of 2048x1536.

A stadium scoreboard has a very low resolution; inches per dot, instead of dots per inch. This can display a small picture over a huge area, bad for close-ups but good for stadiums.

Library microfilm has a very high resolution. This can display a big picture in a tiny area, good for saving space but bad for unaided-eye reading.

Does this laptop come with a video editing app? If so, then what's the name? Or could I download any video-editing app that doesn't hurt this laptop?

I do not see any video editing apps on this machine, but then again I'm still familiarizing myself with it and the 8.1 OS (I upgraded from the pre-installed 8).   On my Windows 7 desktop, I found that VideoPad works pretty well for basic stuff, and it's free.

Question 10

1) Where are the speakers with this and

2) Does it have the newer rectangular DCn connector to the power adapter?

1)  The speakers are located underneath so the sound plays directly into the work surface.  I'm not sure anybody buys a laptop and looks forward to great sound, but to me, this speaker location stinks.

2)  The power cord does connect to the laptop with a rectangular plug, almost looks like a USB-type insert.
