Pros: durable strong external shell, great sound system with sub woofer pretty fast, good battery life, for its price probably the best deal your gono get!
Cons: the mike has poor quality
Pros:
-----1. The first impression of the laptop is very nice. Matte looking finish on the cover, satin finish on the keys and the surface, and the general presentation was very nice
-----2. HDMI support - this was a key feature that I as looking for - I bought a HDMI monitor as well
-----3. I bought the 250GB hard drive version. They gave me 254GB, excluding the Lenovo drive (29GB), which includes all the laptop's hardware/software information. Usually, they give you a lot less than what they said they'll give you
-----4. Battery life is average. They say that it'll last you 4 hours, but mine lasts 3 hours max
-----5. And, oh, CHEAP PRICE! I bought mine for $540, since I bought the 3GB memory and 250GB hard drive. version
Cons:
-----1. The first thing that bugged me was the set up of the "Fn Key." This one's on the far left. I have not been used to this ever since I ever bought the laptop
-----2. Speakers are weak. Very weak. Sometimes I cannot hear a thing without using headphones
-----3. The Desktop Manager's music touch keys - the lighted touch keys on the top - do not work with iTunes or Zune 4.0. They only work with Window Media Player. And to be honest, I'd rather have pushable keys than touch sensitive keys
-----4. Most of the pre-installed Lenovo softwares do not work very well. For example - Lenovo's ReadyCOMM 4.0 (Lenovo's internet connectivity software) is laggy and basically replaces Vista's internet center, all the while being frustrating and unnecessary
-----5. Track pad is... hard to get used to. Even after almost a year, I cannot tell the difference between the laptop surface and the track pad (they are made of the same material)
Overall Review:
The only thing I can complain I guess is the hardwares.
I can't review Windows Vista because that's Windows Vista's review, not the Lenovo Y530. That wouldn't be fair.
However, the laptop's physical set up of the laptop is average/good.
Pros:
Currently me n my wife r in deep Love with our Y530 that we bought in July 09. Everything works PERFECT except I haven't figured out how to get the HDMI out port to
function with my TV which has S-video.
Overall a gr8 laptop. No major issues/complain so far except one i've mentioned below.
I feel lucky that i bought this one with much lower price for these specifications, as currently it got increased much.I keep checking back here for that lower price, in case I might grab another one for my relatives.
I m sound system lover so this one with Dolby home theater system is at its best.
Also regarding Windows Vista complains, after updating it to latest version i personally dont see any problems.
Liked One Key Recovery feature.
I m keeping most my data's in external drive so no complain for partition sizes its comes with.
Cons:
1) After few weeks of ownership, i found that functions (sleep-hibernate etc) that we do normally by closing lid ,stopped working.I got upset for a week bcoz i paid full price. After performing all kind of experiments, finally i had to sent it to Lenovo repair depot where they found that Lid itself is faulty and magnet that work for this purpose is not in right position. So they replaced my laptop's lid, adjusted magnet position and its working fine now. Then after No problem so far.
2) I owned few basic programs Microsoft office suites, Adobe etc. So no problem with me. This one comes with no such preinstalled programs so new users have to purchase them all.
3) Nonrefundable
4) Wish Newegg would have given FREE Window 7 upgrade eligibility. At that time many other sellers were offering it. I guess they bought it in bulk in past so they could not give u for free !
Overall Review:
Vista updated runs very well, so no more worry abt Vista complaints u see online.
Norton never worked well for me in past so i've replaced it with McAfee.
Also Lenovo forums helps a lot in case of any problems and questions.
Pros: Love my Y530. Everything works except I haven't figured out how to get the HDMI out port to function with projector. Overall a great laptop, very fast, nice screen, good wireless range, very happy. On the complaints about vista, I agree for the version installed, however, updating the large service packs as of about 9/2009 seems to have solved most bugs. Earlier I had to use the one-touch restore because Vista completely died and wouldn't boot... pretty nice feature even though people complain it takes up a chunk of the drive for the restore partition. The incremental backup software that comes on that same partition is very nice. Using it with a 1TB USB drive to backup a restore point for the entire drive with OS & Data - exact total backup with incrementals. Very nice. Also I need to ghost the restore partition and layout in case the entire drive craps out- not just Vista.
Cons:
Best sound I've ever had from a laptop but still the subwoofer is weak and it is'nt going to beat plugging in to amplified speakers. Other people have complained about the rubber tabs over your wrists - they could have put those in the cover instead of the part you touch. Slicing them off with a razor blade solves the problem. I detest touchpads and this on is no exception but being portable you can't always use a mouse anyway... would personally rather have the old thinkpad mini-joystick in the keyboard between the g and h keys but most people don't like those i guess. Also I sacked windows media player and would like better driver support for the multi-media hot keys and reassigning them to work with K-Lite Media Player Classic instead of WMP.
It's not the lightest laptop but my eyesight isn't good enough for a netbook so I'm very happy.
Overall Review:
Vista updated runs well. Using VMWare I'm running Centos5 and feels like it is native on the hardware.
Price was cheaper on this when I bought it in July. I kept checking back here in case I might grab another one for my wife but now they raised price a bit.
Pros: Large screen, keyboard touch, camera, portability.
Cons:
nonrefundable.
No preinstalled programs like microsoft word or anything. You have to purchase all your programs. Also I do not like Norton and went with Avast.
Overall Review: My computer was not uploading properly. I have had to send it back for replacement since they will not refund. Hopefully I will get one that works properly. I do like the camera feature and the keyboard. Has a large screen and is easy to read.
Pros:
I previously had a Dell E1705 and I never bonded with it. Something about that Dell was just wrong. Finally the video card burned out like it does on all the 1705 notebooks, and I shopped around and picked this baby.
I bonded with it at once. It does not have a bunch of buttons all over the place you dont need. Its screen fills the notebook footprint which keeps it small size wise but it still is hefty, not a lightweight computer. I still love it.
It simply worked right out of the box and I turned off the face thingy and got my main programs rolling which are XnView and GOM player and Office Enterprise along with must haves like Nero and 7zip. Everythig works great no issues. Adobe photoshop works perfectly also.
In 2 hours I ordered one of the BlacX SATA drive bays 70 dollar 5 star must have, gosh those are great for swaping out old hard drives and not having to get on that old big machine very often.
Its fast runs games just fine, not max speed but good speed.
Cons:
Tad heavy, Wish it were more expensive so not every kid on the block could get one.
The screen needs to be set just at right angle to see, which is okay unless you move around alot. Screen is fast bright and clear.
If you are gonna use biometrics, use fingerprint, or use nothing. Face recognition is scarey.
Also would like a little flip lid for the web cam so it is physicaly blocked when I dont want people to see me. I dont trust software.
Overall Review: I never dreamed I would ever own a Thinkpad. They are the mark of excellence and even at this low price they are definately ahead of the pack. This is a robust machine that wont let you down. Sadly robust means a few ounces more than the rest. Thinkpads used to cost 6000 to 8000 and this one is better by far than any of those old monsters. Buy one, dont think about it. Better than the rest by far.
Pros:
1. Speakers. Better than any laptop I've ever seen. Great for watching movies or listening to music. Headphones get lame and these speakers do a great job (for a laptop) of making your stuff sound normal.
2. Very solid build. Feels heavy duty whereas so many other laptops felt like they'd snap when you pick them up. Great feature
3. Great keyboard and mouse pad functionality.
4. Screen looks great (BUT, read under the cons section for more)
5. It runs at a pretty high speed. Not the fastest, but definitely holds its own. Definitely need to clean up startup and Vista services to get it running like you want.
6. Decent battery life, even when running videos/music. There is a Power Management option that you can customize. Awesome feature.
Cons:
1. Vista. Why does everyone hate Vista? Because it really does suck. It looks awesome, but it uses your resources like you wouldn't believe, and its an OS so it shouldn't have to hog all your memory just to run! And I'd just like to say right here and now that the User Access Control function is the most idiotic feature a PC can have, ever, in the history of technology. Best advice to speed it up: Google Vista tweaks, turn off indexing.
2. Screen has poor visibility from angles other than straight on. Visibility from the sides is weak, and this sucks when you're showing people something.
3. Lenovo + Vista = About 1 hour minimum of tweaking things so that the machine runs at an acceptable pace. Get rid of that stupid VeriFace thing at startup.
4. Recovery Disc...oh wait, there isn't one! Either use the dumb 30-GB partition on your hard drive (waste of space) or buy a few DVDs. I guess that's OK when you fork over $800 for something...oh wait, that's not OK at all...
Overall Review:
-Once you make all your appropriate tweaks, this machine really runs great.
-Love the DVD/CD Burner and the software that Lenovo included with the machine.
-The lack of a recovery disc. This really is a bad trend. Oh well.
-Something at Windows Media Player in Vista is bad. Maybe it's that it does a really poor job of finding media, playing videos (have fun with .avi until you find the codec). This ties into the next point...
-Why does Microsoft have to be so mediocre on so many levels? Slow Registry still being used, constant constant constant updates (which will undoubtedly bog this thing down in 3 years an cause me to reboot or just boot...this machine into a dumpster). Mac's are too expensive and snooty. Why does the alternative have to be so 2nd Place? I guess my impatience prevents me from using Linux, which I'm sure it great but don't care to spend the time to find out.
-Would be a 5-egg rating if Vista were better and it were just a little bit faster.

Pros: Fast, durable, strong case, nice brushed finish, awesome sound (seriously, it's the best). The LED screen is very good, real bright. The keyboard is good too, I've used it for school for a whole year and there's barely any sign of use (letters are like new).
Cons: I wish it came with Windows 7 and not vista, but getting the drivers for it is not a big deal.
Overall Review: Poor driver support from Lenovo: only for windows vista. Oh, by the way, I paid $600 for it a year ago.
