Question 1

Lexar SL400 with Hub or Lexar SL500 for faster transfers?

Accepted Answer

Choose the SL400 when a phone-filming setup with accessory connections is more important than maximum transfer speed. Choose the SL500 when faster transfers are the priority: Lexar rates it up to 2,000MB/s read and 1,800MB/s write, compared with the SL400’s 1,050MB/s read and 1,000MB/s write. The SL500’s top speeds require a compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 host; the SL400 includes a four-port hub.

Question 2

Do I need the Lexar SL400 hub, or is a regular portable SSD enough?

Accepted Answer

A regular portable SSD is enough for file storage, backups, and transfers when you only need to connect a drive. Choose the SL400 with Hub if you also want to connect filming accessories or power to a compatible phone setup. Its SSD can also be used on its own, while the hub adds ports and workflow flexibility.

Question 3

Lexar SL400 with Hub or Samsung T7 Shield for iPhone video?

Accepted Answer

Choose the Lexar SL400 if you want storage plus a hub for connecting accessories such as microphones, lighting, or a power bank while filming. Choose the Samsung T7 Shield if you want a standalone portable SSD: its advertised read/write speeds are similar, and it has an IP65 rating. The SL400 SSD is also rated IP65, but its distinguishing feature is the separate hub workflow.

Question 4

Can I copy photos from a camera straight to the SSD while traveling?

Accepted Answer

Not by itself. The SSD needs to be connected to a computer or mobile device that supports external storage to transfer camera photos; it is not a standalone photo-copying device.

Question 5

Will it work with a Lightning-port phone using an adapter?

Accepted Answer

Do not assume it will. The retailer’s product Q&A says the fixed USB-C plug is not compatible with a Lightning-port phone through a USB-C-to-Lightning cable. Check your device’s connector before buying.

Question 6

Can I use the SL400 to record video directly from a phone?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with a compatible USB-C phone that supports recording to external storage. The drive is intended for workflows such as recording Apple ProRes footage directly to the SSD; confirm that your specific phone supports this feature.

Question 7

Can I connect a microphone or other accessories through the hub?

Accepted Answer

The hub is designed to connect peripherals, and the retailer’s Q&A says a USB-C microphone can work with it. The microphone setup may need an additional power source, so check the power requirements of your accessories.

Question 8

Can I use the SL400 to move camera files and access them on a phone or computer?

Accepted Answer

A Reddit user reports using the 1TB SL400 to transfer files and use the drive between a desktop, iPad, and iPhone. That discussion does not establish that every camera can copy files directly to it, so check your camera’s USB-storage support and the connection requirements for each device.

Question 9

Is the Lexar SL400 a good fit for backing up photos and videos from a USB-C phone?

Accepted Answer

It may suit phone users who want portable extra storage: the supplied product information lists 1TB capacity and speeds up to 1,050MB/s read and 1,000MB/s write, and Reddit users discussing iPhone storage needs mention the SL400 as an option. Confirm compatibility with your specific phone and app before buying; those details are not established by the discussion.

Question 10

Is the SL400 suitable for carrying with a compact camera while traveling?

Accepted Answer

It may suit a compact carry setup: a Reddit user includes the 1TB SL400 with a Ricoh camera and other small items in a hip pack. The discussion supports portability as a use case, but does not establish that the drive is weatherproof or rugged.
