Pros: Let me just say... wow. Coming from a 1080p screen to this at 3440x1440 was instant gratification. I'm using the display port and anything I do just looks fantastic. My first match of Titanfall after switching... just wow.
The curve, while subtle, seems to be doing its job. At my sitting distance I don't get a sense of the edges being farther away.
Cons: There are a few things that could have been better:
1) Price - $300 more on top of the price of a 34UM95 seemed a bit steep. I get that its a niche market though.
2) No VESA mount. I honestly think there is no mount because LG doesn't want anyone applying pressure to the edges unnecessary in fear of breaking the screen.
3) No rotation or height adjustment on the base.
4) The display vibrates a lot on my desk (metal&glass construction). when typing or doing other things. Since they didn't make it rotate anyway, I would have preferred a wider, maybe double mount, base design to make it more sturdy.
5) There is some bleeding from the edges on dark images but I've honestly not noticed it unless I'm intentionally trying to it happen.
Overall Review: My first monitor was damaged on arrival (UPS did quite a number on it). Second was perfect. Newegg did a fantastic job getting it sorted out with the carrier.
Pros: has everything I need in a monitor, Even for gaming. this is a step up from 1920 x 1080 world.. OM Goodness.
Cons: the only con I found is no height adjustment , but a simple tilt up or down fixes that. and you do have the VESA mount option.
Overall Review: Do your due diligence for you needs. if possible go to you local computer or electronics retailer and compare personally. I looked at the Dell and Samsung 34" Curved as well. I'm very very happy with my selection of the LG.
-So much work space
Overall Review: Simply put, I love this monitor. The colors on this thing are amazing. Fortunately, mine has not had the light bleed issues some have complained about.
Pros: Great visuals, love the IPS screen - first time coming from an old HP 2207 monitor that still works today, hope this LG lasts just as long! I just wish more games were configured for 21x9!
Cons: I really dont like the controls on the bottom, under the screen and really for the most expensive monitor we should be able to make it vertical like some of the less expensive LG 21x9 models. The back and underside of the monitor gets pretty hot for having the power supply outside the monitor itself (its a power brick like a laptop uses)
**using a single display port connection on dual 780Tis when I am in windows and scrolling on IE the screen will tear in half for a spit second exactly in the middle of the screen, this just started happening after upgrading to windows 10, not sure why, but does not happen when gaming. this might because I turned off the response time off. I will play around with it more and report back my findings **
Overall Review: As far as light bleed in the corners, I am really not seeing the problem, looking it from a normal viewing angle I do see something that looks like light bleed, but as soon as I move my head my head to the corners, its the same color as where I saw right before the color change, I am wondering if it has to do with the matt finish rather than IPS screen itself or maybe they fixed it since this one was built in April of 15
Pros: I love this display, it works beautifully on my Macbook Pro 13" early-2011. Wasn't sure it would work but I'm able to support the full 3440 x 1440 resolution.
Best part is that I'm able to have 3 PDFs/webpages open side-by-side. I love that I don't have to deal with a bezel as I would if I had 2-3 monitors. While overpriced and deemed a novelty by some, I think the 21:9 ultrawide monitors will find a home for users oriented for graphics or productivity. I think 34" is the perfect size for this resolution, text isn't too small and the gentle curve make the corners of my screen just as beautiful as the center of my monitor.
Cons: -Not VESA compatible. I think that this is ridiculous considering the price of this monitor.
-Does not rotate, also ridiculous that this monitor cannot rotate. I hear that another curved 34" by LG with similar specs will have a stand that can rotate.
-Can't adjust volume from my macbook pro (although this may just be a software compatibility issue that may get fixed in the future). Right now I have to adjust the volume from the monitor or within the actual software that is playing the audio. I can't just push the volume up/down button on my mac keyboards (it returns an error).
Pros: 3440x1440 resolution makes games look amazing.
Most games support the 21x9 ratio. Only Call of Duty doesn't for me so far. Their engine is out of date, so that didn't surprise me.
I do not get the white in the corners or any of the other complains people are mentioning. I am using a single Display Port cable to attach it. Perhaps some of those with issues are using HDMI?
Requires a lot of graphic horsepower to play games on ultra settings at this resolution.
A Single 980 SC Does the trick for most part but Crysis engine games struggled to maintain 40-50 FPS.
I added a second 980 SC and it's pure heaven.
Overall Review: If you're a hardcore gamer I would expect at least the purchase of a good video card to go along with this monitor.
Most games would run with settings cranked all the way up at at least 40FPS. Some more efficient games like Battlefield 4 would run at almost 100FPS but never dropped below 70fps.
The most I would have to disable is AA and Aniostropic filtering.
Pros: I was initially a bit nervous about ordering this monitor because of the mixed reviews especially with respect to the backlight bleed issue, but I must say I was actually very impressed with this monitor.
-The colors of the IPS panel are stunning, truly stunning to experience. Watching videos online do not do it justice, it's one of those things that are best seen in person.
-Screen real estate is prime, I find the 3440x1440 resolution to be spot on for multi-tab tasks. Three full sized Web pages can be viewed side by side by side.
-Most games support the resolution natively, and depending on the specific game...wow! What an incredible experience
-Built in speakers are pretty nice for well...built in speakers.
I personally found the screen split software to be both useful and well executed.
Cons: Marginal IPS glow, which is important to note is NOT the same as backlight bleed. All back lit, and edge lit LED IPS panels will have some degree of IPS glow. For me, I experienced some minor glow from the top left corner, but really it is only noticeable in completely dark scenes and even then just a very small section of the corner. I guess I was lucky with backlight bleed or perhaps production run issues have been corrected. so ultimately for me, not really a big con.
Pros: Ultrawide 21:9 screen supporting 4k, 2k, 1080p resolution with no "fuzzy images".
Wide view is beyond awesome!
Cons: Extreme white bleed through on right corners, more the bottom than the top.
No VESA mounting.
Stand will not allow for tilt (left to right), rotation or vertical movement.
Joystick is at the bottom of the monitor, slow to respond when attempting to bring up the OSD.
Overall Review: I love the size and resolution support the LG 34UC97 supports. Beautiful monitor. I would recommend this monitor to anyone looking to pick up a 21:9 monitor.
However, I must admit there are quite a few problems with this model and I do not seem to be the only one experiencing them.
Looking at my pros and cons you will see what I am referring to.
So let me share my thoughts past the pros and cons. Gaming is great! I was worried about the 5-14 ms GTG but let me put your worries to rest, I have not experienced any ghosting or screen tearing due to a lack of response of the monitor. Images are crisp and clear.
I have used it for Diablo 3 (use windowed full screen), FFXIV 2k & 4k resolution looks amazing.
PS4 - Destiny, no stuttering or ghosting.
Using the "Picture" setting gives the best color. Increase the brightness if too dark.
I love the size, resolution, colors of the monitor. Just sad that the light bleed in the corners is really bad on the right side. The stand is very frustrating as the price of this monitor should have given use more control of the viewing angle as it is a "Monitor" not a "Television".
Hope this helps people come to a decision about purchasing this monitor.
