I am assuming it needs a HDMI cable as that is what other people buy with it but I don't see that on the specs?

This player is my favorite among the 5 I own. It is simplified to the essentials, but out plays those others in my rack.
Yes it has ONLY hdmi out and the energy using a block keeping the player less heat.
It is extremely fast in loading both blu-ray and regular DVDs and the upconversion of regular DVDs is top of the line quality.
I bought my first players when they came out at the very beginning and am constantly amazed by this small sized player.
At this time the internet is just Netflix and Hulu - but a quick call to LG indicated that they May add in the upgrade.

Yes, this player plays CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays. At time of my player collection it is THE BEST. That includes the Oppo 103, Sony BDP-S5100 and Yamaha BD-V673 - all in my collection of players.
The LG BP300 had immediate information about the disc it is currently playing and you can change anything on the fly!

Will this also play normal DVD's or does it only play blu ray?

Yes. This player plays DVDs as well as Blu-Ray.

Supported formats:
BD-ROM/BD-R/BD-RE
DVD-ROM/DVD±R/DVD±RW
Audio CD/CD-R/CD-RW

It will "upconvert" the DVD to play at resolutions up to 1080p.

You need an hdmi cable if you don't want to use the included composite, and the AAA battery with mine was dead on arrival for the remote. Otherwise its ready out of the box, WiFi antenna could be beefier for my liking but its still a great unit.

Good question.  There is obviously the AC in in the back.   There is an HDMI out in the back (to your TV) and there is what appears to be a USB in the front.  That is all I can see.  In general, pleased with the device, would like to have seen an RJ45 for wired network, but the wireless seems to do just fine.

I am sorry that I don't know more about this machine.  I bought it to watch DVDs and it works with the ones I have.  It will receive Netflix also but I have not used it.

It means that you can plug an external hard drive into the device and watch the movies you have on the external hard drive with the device. As long as the format is correct this device can play it

It shows that Netflix and vuduu. I want to know if it have browser or it can open any website i.e. youtube, youku etc?

It has built in apps for Netflix and Vudu, but no browser ... so no direct access to YouTube, etc.

You can however download net content, dump it to a flash drive and play them through the device's USB slot.  (Formats supported = flv, mov, vob, mp4, wmv, avc, mkv, mp1/2)
