will it play burned disk of bluray movies ?

It will play .mkv files but only locally (not over DLNA)
I would not recommend buying this model, mine has a lot of issues:
1- Does not stream .mkv or mp4 over network
2- Loses connection with DLNA server if any changes are made with file-system
3- Completely freezes at least once a day - power cycle fixes this but it's annoying
4- Netflix app has issues - freezes / won't buffer (but this is over wifi)

There are better smart BR players out there, do yourself a favor and do some research before you settle on this..

Question 2

It says this device is WiFi Ready, but the manufacturer's page says WiFi is built in.  I tend to trust what the manufacturer says, but I need to be sure?

I bought the LG BD530 player earlier this month.  The unit I received did indeed come with WiFi ability built-in.

I usually run it with a wired connection, but to answer your question I went into the Settings menu, and was able to set up a WiFi connection to my home network.

Just note that you need to select the Advanced option in the Connections area in order to select Wireless or Wired networking to configure.

Kevin M, can you elaborate as to why you think this has some very obvious fallbacks?

I assume he meant "drawbacks" not fallbacks.  My only negative experience has been that the Wi-Fi connection is somewhat unstable. (2 bars signal strength). However, the player is not in a good position with respect to the routers so it's likely not the player's fault.

Question 4

would I be able to use the Wi-Fi from this device on my phone and computer even if I do not have internet in house?

you have to  find a hot  spot if you do not, you can not,
it tells  you Internet connection required and sold separately
so you have to have  a ISP to get you on   line. Mine is the same but I have an ISP I hope that helps you out a little  Dean
