Pros: 340 mbps d/l and 120mbps u/l puts this modem at the top of the mountain, at least at the time it came out. DOCSIS 3.0 was icing on the cake and makes it compatible with newer and future technologies. As always with signals, you don't necessary get your max speed due to things like signal strength (too strong a signal can cause major problems as well as too low). I have a 50mbps Comcast connection and through speed tests and optimization I can bump it up to 56-60mbps through this modem. As far as speed goes it does what it says, but there is a downside.
Cons: This modem is notoriously known to have connection issues. I was lucky that it was over 1.5 years before I started experience any disconnections, but when it did it came with a whole world of hurt. Every 5 minutes it would disconnect, sometimes it wouldn't comeback on for hours. At times when it was connected my connection was SUPER slow, only pulling like 32kbps (which is seriously like dial-up) on what is supposed to be a 50mbps line. I was forced to upgrade to the latest Motorola modem to enjoy my internet and haven't regretted it since!
Overall Review: Several cable companies adopted this modem as its own so if your cable company dares to put this in stop them immediately! Thousands of others know the frustration this modem has caused. A failure on Cisco's end.
Pros: The modem has great signal monitoring capabilities (just type 192.168.100.1 in your browser) where you can monitor individual channel signal strength and the noise in the line.
Cons: This modem comes shipped with a January 2012 firmware revision. This revision is faulty out of the box. Your modem will reset at random intervals during peak usage. The firmware is confirmed to be faulty and CISCO will request you to send the modem back. If your ISP sells/recommends this modem, then they can give you a firmware update over the cable lines. If not (like in my case) you will have to send it to CISCO/Linksys.
Pros: Works great so far. My speeds are what my ISP advertised so no complaints after all it is a cable modem not much more to say as long as it lasts.
Cons: None yet but I do regret buying the extended warranty. DO NOT DO IT! I have coverage on another item and I have been waiting almost a month now for the so called no questions asked gift card. I had to spend extra money to purchase a replacement device while these fools figure out it out. I made the mistake and bought coverage for three devices total now and I am not happy about the service or the turnaround time. This coverage is through Service Net (www.myserviceplan.com) I would go to another extended warrant place like Square Trade if I had to do it over. This plan sucks.
Pros: compact size, screw mounting tabs, runs relatively cool
Cons: limited support from manufacture
Overall Review: worked well for a few months, now it power cycles every 30mins when under high utilization; Not sure what changed... Linksys will not support this device in any way, they point you to call Comcast (I'd rather punch babies). Linksys also does not have any firmware updates and refuses to help with this device, yet Comcast has multiple firmware versions (??) I purchased this device privately, so I'm not getting help from either side LOL. When searching my issue, it appears that this "30min reboot" issue is common with the DCP3008, fair warning folks.
Pros: Biggest pro is not spending $7.00/mo to comcast for rental fees. :-) Comcast uses this brand which was the main reason I bought it so it was easy to setup and update.
Cons: none Had it 6 months now with no issues.
Overall Review: There are other brands out there but if they are not on the supported list with comcast you may have issues with updates. To avoid "issues" was the main reason I bought the same model that comcast was renting to me.
Pros: Fast as hell
Cons: Runs warm, Comcast firmware FAIL.
Overall Review: There was a problem with the firmware (with Comcast, not sure about others). They rolled back to an older one and it's stable again. It was really bad from the 14th to the 17th. All's well now. You may have to unplug the modem for a few seconds and plug it back in, but that'll make it work. If you go to http://192.168.100.1 and see "Firmware Build Time: Aug 11 11:30:58 2011 " You should be all set.
Pros: Compact.
Cons: Extremely unreliable. Drops connection every 15-20 minutes with any sort of load. Is known to have broken firmware. Should not be for sale.
Overall Review: I game and steam and it dropping connection bothered me. After investigating forums about why it resets every 15 mins, I found several posts about it being a firmware issue from 2012. The only way around it seems to be replace the modem. Why would Linksys sell me something that is broken? Why would they not have fresh firmware to address this issue. It's a 3 year old problem and it continues to exist. I've always loved Linksys products but this level of laziness changes my mind. I would return it but then I would have no internet at all and I would have to wait on the shipping. Instead I'm going to go to a store, buy a netgear or something, and then never giving Linksys money again. You guys blew it.
Pros: None
Cons: Out of the box it seems to work, when traffic flows through it it reboots repeatedly(every 1-15 minutes when traffic is present). I worked some with my isp to see if it was a problem on their end(it isn't) and I didn't act quickly enough to return it to newegg. I called linksys, after about 3 hours and 2 call backs they said it was defective and should be replaced. They approved me for an RMA and told me to call back M-F 6am-8pm to setup the return. I called back and after another 45ish minutes waiting for them to pull up my record, they indicated that I could pay to ship my broken one back to them, or I they could put a hold for $115.00(more than I paid for the new one) on my credit card and they would ship me another one. Then I could pay to ship my broken one back and they would release the hold. Also they were going to give me a not used but not new replacement that was pulled to make room for newer models and was refurbished, and it would come with a 90 day warranty.(NOT 1 year like the one that never worked). I asked the customer service lady if I could speak with her supervisor and she said "Why?, they are just going to tell you the same thing. If you go on-line to process it, it will also be the same" I insisted and she refused to put me in touch with a supervisor. This is awful service from linksys, I'm going to be mailing my junk back to them and maybe we'll see if it works when it comes back. I'm never buying a linksys anything again(this is my 2nd linksys cable modem the docsis 2.0 one still works great even at 6 years old), but I'll never ever buy another cisco, linksys or belkin product if this is the support I'll have to deal with. If any linksys support lurkers out there my case number is 130406-000-279
Overall Review: If I could put -5 stars I would, I also wish more of these issues had been in the comments when I purchased mine.
