Newegg lists this LGS108 as a "smart switch" but I checked Linksys' website. appears this is just an unmanaged switch, right?

Correct.  It is an unmanaged switch.  Maybe what it means by "smart" is just that this switch is just that it would turn off the ports that are not connected or active to be energy efficient.

Do the LED's indicate the link speed?  Some indicate the speed with different colors.

No, sadly the LED's do not change color (Amber/Green for 100/1000 respectively).  There is only 1 LED per port.

I just ran a normal Cat 6E cable from my router to it, and it works fine.  I don't think you will need a crossover patch cable.

Yes. I have a mix of Cat 6 and Cat 5e now because I did not have enough left-over Cat 6 to make more cables. I'm using it with a Linksys WRT1900AC router and DPC3008 modem.

I have a Linksys WRTG45L router hooked to my satellite internet modem.   I need several more ports and bought a rosewill 8 port unmanaged switch (10/100).

Am I going to see a speed improvement with this switch?  Also, if I have devices hooked to this switch, do they communicate directly through it, or is everything sent back through the router first?

I have cat 6 cables.

The Gigabit switch will greatly improve the traffic on your local network.  This switch allows all traffic to and from devices plugged in to communicate at a higher bandwidth according to the speed the device itself supports.  The router is shared through the switch when connected but the traffic if unaffected by the router other than your access to your internet service.  I doubt that your internet will ever reach 100 Mbps so the gigabit speed will not add to the speed of the internet connection, just local traffic.  Also, most cables will only allow 350 to 400 Mbps so you do not actually get full capacity of the switch but the speed of data transfers is definitely improved.

Compared to the Linksys SE3008, is this switch exactly the same thing except it's for Small Business Solutions, and less items in the packaging? Linksys Live Help wasn't even worth it, maybe someone here has better knowledge...

These two switches are the same, both 8 port and both gigabit.  I replaced my SE3008 (the plastic version) as the lights were on the same side as the cable  distribution and I wanted the LGS108 as it is metal and you have decent looking face with the lights on the front with the wires coming out of the back of the unit.
