Pros: A basic drive that works well on a wide variety of laptops. I hooked a couple of these up on an Inspiron 5150 and an Inspiron 6000. Neither latptop required any master/slave re-configuration to recognize these drives. It just makes life easy. Reads scratched or smudged discs fairly well. Immediately pops open when you press eject. Pops open immediately after closing if you've pressed the eject button while closing. (LoL)
Cons: If you are buying these for a customer, you should know that the drives I received had a manufacture date of June 2007. (immediately out of manufacturer's 1 year warranty out of the box) Lite-on probably wouldn't help anyone who couldn't prove the drives were newly purchased. Also, the drives are labeled "Ben-Q", which means that even though they're just re-badged Lite-on drives, Lite-on would probably send you to Ben-Q for assistance within warranty. Newegg's warranty on these should cover any problems, but I'd expect quite a bit of confusion if you sold one of these and your customer had a problem and then tried to get a manufacturer's warranty replacement.
Overall Review: These are nice, affordable, quiet replacement drives that are compatible with a lot of laptops out there. The front bezel pops off easily so you can attach your old faceplate for a smooth seamless finish. Use a small flathead, and be careful not to poke yourself. These are easily half the price of what a big name PC manufacturer charges for a replacement drive. If it doesn't work on your laptop, Newegg will take it back no problem. You may as well give it a try and replace that busted drive.
