Pros: Potential to burn very fast (I only have 8x media). Fast read speeds too. Cheap!

Cons: Seems to take a while to spin up a disk. (hence the 1 star deduction) I'm used to an NEC that spins up as soon as you insert the disk. This model seems to take up to 10 secs to even spin the disk up. Maybe its a LiteON thing?

Overall Review: Very nice drive. Quiet, fast, and seemingly reliable so far. This one seems to read disks that my old NEC had a difficult time with.

Pros: Fast, inexpensive, great drive. Ive had many lite-on drives and have loved them all! Easy plug and play install.

Cons: none, some people complain that this thing sounds like a plane taking off while spinning up. Ive found that while this model is louder than my previous 12x dvdr, but that is to be expected because of the higher spin speeds required to burn at faster rates.

Overall Review: writable media is not up to the speed of this burner yet. One in five dvds that I burn fail. No fault of the burner. Also, be aware that OEM doesnt come with any cables or software, if you need software and cables get the RETAIL version. Thats why the OEM version is less expensive.

Cons: Mine was Beyond Extremely LOUD!!!! Sounds like a ceiling fan when you have a disc in it.

Pros: It was inexpensive. OEM= No stuff&fluff, just what I want. Installation was a breeze (I love my X-Blade case, popped off the front, remove the old DVD burner, take snaps off the old one and put them on the new one, hook up the wires, and snap it back in, and put the front cover back on. It was installed and up and running faster than the time it took me to type this review, LOL!!) No setup required, it was immediatly recognized with XP Home. About a 10 second spin-up for a DVD from the time the tray shuts, which is fine by me.

Overall Review: I just watched a DVD of mine that I backed-up with AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. I burned at the highest speed and played it on a cheapo $30 DVD Player, and it played perfectly. On a side note, I can't begin to express how pleased I am with Newegg's service, but I will try. Lowest prices I could find (and believe me I looked long and hard for a better price) and quick, inexpensive shipping. This isn't the first time I have shopped with Newegg and it definantly won't be the last time. Thanks Newegg!!

Pros: Good Fast Burn...but...

Cons: Had to unlock manu's firmware to flash it since this is an OEM product. Unfortunately I later came across the problem that not all Commercial DVDs can be decrypted/ripped with AnyDVD or anything else.

Overall Review: LiteOn later posted that this drive won't work with AnyDVD...I smell macrovision's involvement. My final decrypting/ripping solution was to simply use my old drive to do the ripping and this new LiteOn Drive to burn the results!

Pros: Price to performance ratio. High quality burns on some dubious media. Actually better results with cheaper media than on my "golden" BenQ 1640! Ability to scan for disc quality using KProbe, Nero CD-DVD Speed, and other apps. Ability to overspeed lower rated media and "hypertune" your drive improving burn quality using Lite-On's Smart-Burn Utility. The drive also fully supports BookType / bitsetting, runs at UDMA-4, and peacefully coexists with 3 other optical drives in my box.

Cons: Lead in time is slow. 40 - 50 seconds typical. Seems to vary with media. Lead out time is quicker than my other drives, however.

Overall Review: I was a bit reluctant to get this drive based on some disapointing experiences with Lite-On CD burners several years ago. I thought for the price, I'd give it a shot. I've tested the drive with the following media: TY0G-- Superb results as expected. MCC 02RG20-- Very good results as expected. RITEKF1-- Outstanding results for this media! My BenQ & Pioneer drives detest this media. Sony 16x media with Sony media ID code-- very good results. In short, it burned everything I had on hand with excellent quality results. I haven't burned any CD media, so I can't comment. I use TY CDs so I expect good results. I have read complaints about the drive being noisy. I haven't observed this while burning at 16x. I have no reservations about recommending this drive. The complaints about no screws, no software, no cables included are ludicrous. This is an OEM drive-- no frills, no extras should be expected. If you really need them, get the retail box version for a couple of bucks more.

Pros: The Burner itself is very quiet and the load time of the DVD and CD's are amazingly fast. I use Memorex DVD+R 16x speed. The Burner maxed out at 16x because of the disc but with no errors which is awsome. I burned a 4.7GB disc in 4 min with no write errors.. overall for the price i would not COMPLAIN AT ALL.....!!
