I have a 2008 Dell Inspiron 530... ish desktop.  Will this power supply safely power that machine?

@ William S as a computer/electronics tech repair, system builder etc. with 20 + years experience I will simply answer you yes. Unless you are running anything such as a high end graphics card requiring extra power such as a 6 prong or multiple for it then a similar power supply (also known as a PSU) in the 350 -450 watt range will be fine this is a decent one for the price. So unless you plan on building a heavy end (gaming, video editing, autocad/architecture, &/or bitmining computer requiring a very power hungry graphics card this will work fine for you and any regular home use computer.

Are you restoring an antique computer?  It is hard to say with the information you have given.  Back in the day, power supplies were sometimes built to fit in a particular computer.  This style of power supply has been used in generic computers since the 90's if I recall correctly.  Does your motherboard have a 20 pin connector?  Also, if you read the specifications you will find these dimensions: 3.8" x 6.5" x 8.5".  Do you have the old power supply to measure?  You can always take a gamble and buy it anyway.  They don't come any cheaper than this.  It will also provide more than enough power for a 286 machine and it has the molex connectors that have been standard since the stone age.

Question 6

this PS keeps on shutting down my computer.  and then I can't power on for 1 minute.  my motherboard does seem hot, I have 2 small fans.  maybe I should have gotten diablotek or another one.
is my PS failing?

I have installed two of these on lower end systems (dual core, big box systems) with no issue. If you have a custom system with high performance components (graphics, cpu etc) I would not recommend this ps because it is not designed for that, get a high end ps with more reliable power rails.

What connectors does it have?

I am not an expert on hardware, but this was a 15 minute job on a 6 year old Walmart HP computer.  (including cleaning with air)

The motherboard connector is a 2 part connector.  This means if your motherboard has the long slot, you just plug it in.  If your motherboard has the short slot, you just slide the end section off of the Power Supply plug, and it will fit the short slot in the motherboard.  There is one other small motherboard connector which is no problem if you keep track when you pull the old power supply out.

As far as the 5 volt connectors that power hard, floppy, CD, and DVD drives, there are 4 of the big 4 prong plugs, and one mini 4 prong plug.

There are 2 more plugs which I did not need, and did not recognize.  They are not on the 5 volt circuit.  About 3/4 long and very skinny with lots of connectors.  (See I am not a hardware guy)

A have bought probably 5 or 6 Power Supplies from Newegg over the last 6 years or so...(I had a wiring problem at home that was eating them), and this one was very "Universal" supporting 5 drives.  Just don't buy one with less wattage than the one you are replacing...

as long as you are not going to have a crazy amount of other things going on inside the case such as RGB stuff or hundreds of drives, you should be fine to go with this PSU. from a bit of research it looks like a strix edition rx 560 uses no more than 120 watts at the most.
